Staying safe.

In drama we have been working on voice and language using the Mayor’s Cat, we had to come up with different adjectives to describe the cat using the alphabet.

In maths we were challenging ourselves by changing improper fractions to mixed fractions and mixed fractions to improper fractions.  It was hard and we had to use our times tables and division.  Some of us realised we had to practise our tables a lot more.

This week it was sports day!  We did class races and team potted sports.  Avon won the overall points.

We demonstrated our knowledge of how to stay safe online and when using our phones.  Please remember,

NEVER give out personal information online even if someone asks.

NOT everyone is who they say they are.

If a site asks you to use a profile picture DON’T use a picture of yourself or one that gives away any information about you.

ALWAYS tell an adult what you are doing online, if you see anything upsetting or someone asks for personal information.

STAY SAFE ONLINE!

A busy time

P4 have had a busy couple of weeks.

In ICT we downloaded an app which let us doodle on the ipads.  We have also used the ipads to write notes about our RME topic, Ramadan and we have used Google maps to find the school, our houses and other local places.

On Monday 6th June, P4-7 did a Race for Life in the Duchess Park.  It was to raise awareness and raise money for Cancer Research.  We all did 2 laps round the park and some of the mums, toddlers and dogs joined in.  One of the girls in P4 was first for the class and second back for the school.

The next day was French Focus Day.  We had to learn a song for the whole school assembly.  It was about the colours of the animals.  P2a did the fantastic French assembly.  We had a special French lunch and learned how to play lotto in French.  This helped us practise the numbers like un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf and dix.  We also played it with the colours, vert, rouge, jaune, rose, marron, bleu, violet, orange and blanc.

Class Capers

This week P4 have been learning our French song for Ladywell’s French Focus Day.  We also leaned the seasons in French.  At the moment the season is ‘le printemps’.  We recapped our numbers to 31 in French.

In health and wellbeing we have started a food and health topic.  First we made posters to help people keep their kitchens clean, hygienic and safe.  Then we looked at fridges and sorted out where we should put food in the fridge to avoid cross contamination.  Meat should be kept at the bottom and all food should be covered or in a tub.

Then P4 investigated some herbs by smelling and looking at them.  Herbs are used to add flavour and make food taste better.  A few herbs that we looked at are oregano, rosemary, parsley, thyme, fennel, basil, chives and coriander.  Next week P4 are going to be making something in the kitchen with herbs.

In our writing lesson we were lucky enough to make rice krispie cakes to help us write instructions.

In IDL and literacy we had a go at writing our own tabloid headlines for recent pictures in the news.  We’ll post some good ones next week.

In maths we have been working on fractions.  We know about wholes, halves, quarters, thirds and fifths.  We can also recognise other fractions by counting the number of pieces a shape has been divided into.  This number goes on the bottom of the fraction and the number of pieces coloured in goes on the top.

In PE we have been learning ball skills like throwing, bouncing, batting and catching.

Join us again next week to find out what we made in the kitchen.

**Back to P4 News!!** (Dn dn dn)

In maths this week we have been learning about fractions. We have been learning about halves, wholes and quarters. We have also been learning about thirds, fifths and eights. We have been learning how to give change from £5.

P4 have been learning about homophones this week in literacy with Mr Johnston. Homophones are two or more words that sound the same when spoken but have different spellings. For example ‘dear & deer’, ‘sun &  son’, ‘their, there and they’re’. Also in literacy we have been learning about antonyms. An antonym is a word that is the opposite of another word. For example, ‘hot & cold’, ‘yes & no’, ‘right and wrong’

Sadly, this week Mr Johnston is leaving P4 to return back to university. He was a very very very good teacher. Everyone in P4 enjoyed doing measurement with Mr Johnston and everyone will miss him working with us. We have been also learning homophones and antonyms with Mr Johnston.

This week P4 have been given their new French jotters. We have been asking each other when our birthdays are and answering with the month and the date of our birthdays. ‘Quelle est la date de ton anniversaire?’ ‘Mon anniversaire c’est le …..’

In PE with Mrs Steel we have been throwing and catching in rounders. With Mr Johnston in indoor PE we were practising our ball skills, throwing and catching balls with a partner.

P4 News!

This week in P4 we have been continuing on our Media topic. We were using our newspapers in class to find out key features of a newspaper. Some key features that we found were headlines, adverts, TV programme listings, the weather forecast and different fonts and text sizes.

In maths we have been thinking about our prior knowledge of fractions. We were gathering all our facts we know about fractions to create a prior knowledge poster. On Tuesday this week with Mr Johnston in maths we were looking at measurement. We were learning how to measure straight lines using our rulers (cm & mm) and we were also creating 2D houses using our rulers and straight lines.

In P.E. this week we were playing rounders, we were practicing our throwing, catching and batting skills.

This week we were using the iPads to make a video about the playground for the new P1’s to watch so that they would know how to be safe in the playground when they come to school in August. In RME with Mrs Steel we were designing our own prayer mats.

On Friday morning we were learning about homophones. Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings and spellings. Some examples are, deer and dear, their, there and they’re, flour and flower, to, too and two, bare and bear, saw and sore.

(DnDnDn) P4 News this week!

We have been making 3D models of Roman villas this week to demonstrate their knowledge.  We have been working in groups to show we can work as a team, share ideas, contribute to discussions, use partner voices and listen to each other.

We have been using non-fiction books to develop our  reading strategies and note-taking.

Our new topic is ‘The Media’  We have discussed our prior knowledge and learned that there are six different types of media; newspapers, the internet, TV, radio, advertising and social media.  Using a blog is a great example of media.

In maths we have been learning about measure with Mr Johnston.  So far we have learned how to use a ruler to measure accurately in cm and mm.  We have also used measuring tapes to measure objects in the classroom.  We can now measure in cm, mm and cm and mm.  We can convert cm to mm and vice versa.
