{"id":3403,"date":"2019-01-25T20:46:31","date_gmt":"2019-01-25T20:46:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/kirkshawswebsite\/?p=3403"},"modified":"2019-01-25T20:46:31","modified_gmt":"2019-01-25T20:46:31","slug":"mrs-ns-notes-25th-january","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/kirkshawswebsite\/2019\/01\/25\/mrs-ns-notes-25th-january\/","title":{"rendered":"Mrs N&#8217;s Notes ~ 25th January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s very easy when writing a blog to focus on all the good stuff going on in our wee school.\u00a0 (And don&#8217;t get me wrong, there is LOADS of fabulous news to share each week: Kilbowie preparations, Burns celebrations, new after-school learning opportunities&#8230;)\u00a0 However, it is worth remembering that, as in any family, we have regular fall-outs, misunderstandings and disagreements. There are times when we can all feel disappointed and disheartened because things aren&#8217;t going the way we planned. This week I had the privilege of helping some learners <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">STOP<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #0000ff\">THINK<\/span> about what has gone wrong, then make a <span style=\"color: #008080\">PLAN<\/span> to move forward and improve the situation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/kirkshawswebsite\/files\/2019\/01\/IMG_5106.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3404\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/kirkshawswebsite\/files\/2019\/01\/IMG_5106-300x117.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"117\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This display has had a prominent position in our school for the past few months.\u00a0 As you enter our dinner hall you can&#8217;t help but see it, but I sometimes wonder who actually READS it!\u00a0 Has it become like wallpaper that we see, but really don&#8217;t notice?\u00a0 We welcome mistakes in Kirkshaws&#8230;yes, you did read that correctly!\u00a0 We see mistakes as the most valuable learning opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Mistakes are <strong><span style=\"color: #993366\">EXPECTED<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 If you never make a mistake, you are not venturing outwith your comfort zone.\u00a0 If you always get everything correct, we are not challenging you to achieve your full potential.\u00a0 We are not all perfect; we will not get it right every time.\u00a0 Mistakes can happen in a Maths jotter, but also in a friendship or on the sports field.\u00a0 Recognising and admitting your mistake is the first step. Don&#8217;t be surprised or devastated if you make a mistake &#8211; your teachers are expecting it.<\/p>\n<p>Mistakes are <strong><span style=\"color: #993366\">RESPECTED.\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #993366\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">All we ask is that you try your best.\u00a0 No one can ask for more than that.\u00a0 We all have different talents and skills.\u00a0 Stick in, give it all you&#8217;ve got and you can be proud of the results, regardless of a score on a piece of paper or the number of goals scored on the pitch.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mistakes are <strong><span style=\"color: #800080\">INSPECTED<\/span><\/strong>. Now this is an important stage. If you got it wrong this week, there is no point doing the same thing next time.\u00a0 In Kirkshaws there is always someone willing to talk it through with you.\u00a0 Perhaps things went wrong at playtime this week, well let&#8217;s talk about it.\u00a0 What went wrong?\u00a0 What do we need to change next time to make sure you are happy?<\/p>\n<p>Mistakes are <strong><span style=\"color: #800080\">CORRECTED<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 Well, that&#8217;s surely what school is all about.\u00a0 But this is so much more than a teacher marking your page with a cross or a tick.\u00a0 In Kirkshaws we are expecting you to correct your errors.\u00a0 With a little help you can move on, take your learning to the next level and face new challenges.\u00a0 By talking it through, we can mend relationships and come out stronger at the end.<\/p>\n<p>It is never too late to turn things around; make small changes to get things back on track.\u00a0 No one says it will be easy, but if you are a member of the Kirkshaws family, you never need to do it alone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s very easy when writing a blog to focus on all the good stuff going on in our wee school.\u00a0 (And don&#8217;t get me wrong, there is LOADS of fabulous news to share each week: Kilbowie preparations, Burns celebrations, new after-school learning opportunities&#8230;)\u00a0 However, it is worth remembering that, as in any family, we have regular fall-outs, misunderstandings and disagreements.
