Did you know it was International\u00a0Day of Happiness<\/span>\u00a0 this week?\u00a0 I think we celebrated International WEEK of Happiness at Kirkshaws!\u00a0 I don’t know if it was the arrival of Spring (officially) or perhaps the departure of the snow (for now!), but there were certainly loads of smiles around this week.<\/p>\n

The week began as last week ended…with visitors!\u00a0 This time it was representatives from Coatbridge High School who were down to give us technical challenges!\u00a0 Using K’Nex, our P.6 pupils created a series of models to fulfil the design brief.\u00a0 It wasn’t easy, but despite the difficulties encountered, our learners kept grinning to the end!<\/p>\n

Mr Gall and the Football Team had plenty to smile about after their latest matches in the Friendship League.\u00a0 Whether we win or lose, Kirkshaws pupils consistently demonstrate the sportsmanship and\u00a0 dedication we are so proud of.\u00a0 This week we had some great scores and a demonstration of our core values of RESPECT, TRUST,<\/span> FRIENDSHIP<\/span> and RESILIENCE<\/span> by our footballing ambassadors.\u00a0 These same qualities were demonstrated by our younger sporting super stars on Friday too.\u00a0 Room 4 took part in the Mini Sportshall Athletics and enjoyed every minute!<\/p>\n

As soon as we discovered that it was World Down Syndrome Day on Wednesday, there was no stopping the Kirkshaws family.\u00a0 Everyone wanted to wear odd socks to\u00a0 raise awareness of the contributions our friends with Down Syndrome bring to our families, our communities and our lives.\u00a0 The video Mr Sharp showed us, featuring his young friends, made us smile as we watched families doing car-karaoke together.\u00a0 So much love and hope shining through!<\/p>\n

But the biggest smiles of the week belonged to our nursery children when they welcomed Miss Smith and her new baby,\u00a0 Kaidan, who\u00a0 popped in for a surprise visit.\u00a0 What a beautiful baby and happy Mummy!\u00a0 Of course the boys and girls took the opportunity to ask lots of questions, resulting in unplanned learning about welcoming a child to a family.<\/p>\n

Nursery transition visits have continued this week.\u00a0 Smiles all round, as our Primary 1 pupils took on the role of learning buddies for their young friends.\u00a0 I actually don’t know how Room 2 managed to fit that in, with all their Easter Enterprise activities this week.\u00a0 However, they took it all in their stride.\u00a0 Cakes were baked, displayed, sold and distributed by our P.1 entrepreneurs.\u00a0 The Enterprise continues next week as we are invited to Guess the Birthday of the Bunny and Chicks.\u00a0 Good Luck!<\/p>\n

Our nursery pupils were out and about once again, visiting the local library.\u00a0 As always, we heard glowing reports about their behaviour both at the library and during the journey too.\u00a0 Now that made me smile!<\/p>\n

And what better way to complete the week than some Golden Time Fun!\u00a0 It is always so encouraging in our school that SO MANY pupils are rewarded with Golden Time.\u00a0 Regular positive behaviour, adhering to the school rules and demonstrating our school values is rewarded in Kirkshaws.\u00a0 Of course the BIG reward is coming next week…Have you managed to stay on Green?\u00a0 Will you be smiling next Tuesday? I hope so!\u00a0 Silver Award Time.<\/p>\n
