{"id":1758,"date":"2018-02-24T10:18:11","date_gmt":"2018-02-24T10:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/kirkshawswebsite\/?p=1758"},"modified":"2018-02-24T10:36:56","modified_gmt":"2018-02-24T10:36:56","slug":"mrs-ns-notes-23rd-february","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/kirkshawswebsite\/2018\/02\/24\/mrs-ns-notes-23rd-february\/","title":{"rendered":"Mrs N&#8217;s Notes 23rd February"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been a week of putting our<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"> CORE VALUES<\/span> into practice.<\/p>\n<p>Primary 7 demonstrated great <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">RESILIENCE<\/span> during their adventure walk on Monday.\u00a0 With Mrs McBain and our CLD workers, they spent the whole day exploring Mugdock Park.\u00a0 As always their <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">RESPECT<\/span> for their hosts and the local environment was evident as they worked as a team to complete a further task of their North Lanarkshire Challenge programme.<\/p>\n<p>Some of our nursery pupils were also out and about this week.\u00a0 Library visits included a ride on the bus&#8230;and, I&#8217;m told, a cafe-snack!\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">FRIENDSHIP, TRUST<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">RESPECT<\/span> being developed out with the playroom setting.\u00a0 SKILLS FOR LEARNING, LIFE AND WORK&#8230;even from the youngest age.<\/p>\n<p>Another group of Kirkshaws Ambassadors were our Cross Country runners who took part in area qualifiers on Tuesday.\u00a0 No cheating for Team Kirkshaws&#8230;<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">HONESTY<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">RESILIENCE<\/span> and a positive attitude saw us through!\u00a0 We are delighted to have 8 pupils heading to the finals next month.<\/p>\n<p>Growth Mindset lessons, delivered through Box Soccer, continue for 4 classes weekly.\u00a0 Watching them at work it is evident how <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">RESILIENCE, RESPECT, TRUST<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">FRIENDSHIP<\/span> are being nurtured as the pupils demonstrate independence and <em><strong>inter<\/strong><\/em>dependence in the setting of the gym hall and classroom.\u00a0 As well as that, it is also key that our learners are <em>enjoying<\/em> these activities.<\/p>\n<p>Rooms 9 and 10 continue working with Matt Stewart from Entrepreneur Me, developing their DO GOOD projects. Once again, they are not in a position to give up at this stage; <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">RESILIENCE, RESPECT<\/span> and teamwork are key to a successful outcome here.\u00a0 More news of these enterprise ventures coming soon.<\/p>\n<p>At our stage assemblies this week we were gathering pupil views on Health Week.\u00a0 In addition, our Playground Charter Steering Group met for the first time and set the wheels in motion to restructure playtime activities. What a fabulous position to be in, where we can <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">TRUST<\/span> our learners to take such key leadership roles within our school community.<\/p>\n<p>In our nursery class, transition visits have started, with groups of future P.1 pupils working alongside our school staff in the classroom and gym.\u00a0 It is heartwarming watching <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">RESPECT<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">FRIENDSHIPS<\/span> develop amongst the learners who will be in P.1 and P.2 next year.\u00a0 Fabulous to have such confident individuals in both year groups.<\/p>\n<p>Nursery Open Sessions also continued this week.\u00a0 It is vitally important to us, as a staff team, that you can <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">TRUST<\/span> us to care for your children as you would do yourself.\u00a0 These collaborative learning opportunities go a long way to doing that, whilst allowing your child to demonstrate their daily learning.\u00a0 Thank you to everyone who managed to attend.<\/p>\n<p>But it is not just our pupils and staff who have been demonstrating these values.\u00a0 One of our parents lost her bag on Thursday evening and was distraught when it couldn&#8217;t be found.\u00a0 A member of the local community found a clue inside, linking the bag to Kirkshaws and we were delighted to reunite our mum with her bag on Friday.\u00a0 What a fabulous story of <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">HONESTY<\/span> to share with our pupils at assembly to end the week.\u00a0 However the P.7 pupil who came and asked of she could send a Thank You card to the honest citizen on behalf of the school also made me proud.\u00a0 That&#8217;s the spirit of <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">RESPECT<\/span> and gratefulness that makes Kirkshaws unique!<\/p>\n<p>#proud headteacher<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been a week of putting our CORE VALUES into practice.
