They aim to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide\u00a0a healthy nutritious start to the day.<\/li>\n<li>Help children to be alert and ready to learn.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage children to mix with their friends.<\/li>\n<li>Improve attendance and performance throughout the day.<\/li>\n<li>Reassure parents that their child is safe when dropped off in the morning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ALL pupils in P.1-P.5 are eligible for a free breakfast.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A breakfast consists of fruit juice, cereal and toast.\u00a0 Breakfast costs \u00a31.00, but is free to those pupils who are in receipt of a free school meal.\u00a0 The price is reduced for multiple children in the family if all members of the family arrive at the till point at the same time. (2 children &#8211; \u00a31.50, 3 children &#8211; \u00a31.80).<\/p>\n<p>Here at Kirkshaws, our Breakfast Club\u00a0opens at 8.15am from Monday to Friday.\u00a0 <strong>There is no need to pre-book your place or commit to attending every day; just turn up on the days that suit your family circumstances<\/strong>.\u00a0 Mrs Stewart and our catering staff are in attendance daily to welcome our pupils with healthy food options and fun activities in a safe setting.\u00a0 Breakfast is served from 8.15am until 8.45am.\u00a0 If the weather is fine, P.4-7 pupils are allowed to play in the playground from 8.45am with school staff supervising.\u00a0 In bad weather, pupils are supervised in school until the bell rings at 9am, when they can then go to class.<\/p>\n<p>North Lanarkshire&#8217;s\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk\/images\/media\/pdficon.gif\" alt=\"pdf icon\" \/>\u00a0<a class=\"inlinemedia id14133 typepdf\" title=\"Breakfast Club 2014\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk\/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=14133&amp;p=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc\">Breakfast Club Leaflet<\/span><\/span><\/a> provides more information on the format of breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>Breakfast clubs have been recognised as providing a valuable service to schools and have been awarded North Lanarkshire Council&#8217;s\u00a0corporate award for health and wellbeing and a Scottish Government\u00a0award from the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (CoSLA).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Healthy eating<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is North Lanarkshire&#8217;s\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk\/images\/media\/pdficon.gif\" alt=\"pdf icon\" \/>\u00a0<a class=\"inlinemedia id12396 typepdf\" title=\"Diet and Nutrition Policy 2013 \u2013 2014 Revision\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk\/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=12396&amp;p=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc\">Policy<\/span><\/span><\/a> to offer foods that meet national nutritional guidelines set by The Scottish Government.
