The aims of the Courses are to enable pupils to:<\/span><\/strong>
\nDevelop skills in graphic communication techniques, including the use of equipment, materials and software<\/p>\n

Extend and apply knowledge and understanding of graphic communication standards, protocols and conventions, where these apply<\/p>\n

Develop an understanding of the impact of graphic communication technologies on our environment and society<\/p>\n

\n

2D Graphic Communication:<\/span><\/strong>
\nThis Unit helps pupils develop their creativity and skills within a 2D graphic communication context.<\/p>\n

It will allow pupils to initiate, develop and communicate ideas using graphic techniques in straightforward and familiar contexts.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Unit allows pupils to develop their skills in some less familiar or new contexts.<\/p>\n

Pupils will develop 2D graphic spatial awareness.<\/p>\n

\n

3D and Pictorial Graphic Communication:<\/span><\/strong>
\nThis Unit helps pupils develop their creativity and skills within a 3D and pictorial graphic communication context.<\/p>\n

It will allow pupils to initiate, develop and communicate ideas using graphic techniques in straightforward and familiar contexts.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Unit allows pupils to develop their skills in some less familiar or new contexts.<\/p>\n

Pupils will develop 3D graphic spatial awareness.<\/p>\n

In both Units, pupils will develop an understanding of how graphic communication technologies impact on our environment and society.<\/p>\n

\n

\nAssessment:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Unit assessment: <\/span><\/strong>
\nUnits will be assessed on a pass\/fail basis within centres. SQA will provide rigorous external quality assurance, including external verification, to ensure assessment judgments are consistent and meet national standards.<\/p>\n

Course Assessment:<\/span><\/strong>
\nTo gain the award of the Course at National 4, the pupils must pass both Units as well as the Assignment. To gain the award of the Course at National 5, the pupils must pass both Units as well as the Course Assessment which consists of a final exam and Assignment. The Course Assessment will be graded A to D.<\/p>\n
