{"id":40,"date":"2017-06-06T20:37:44","date_gmt":"2017-06-06T20:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/kilsythacademymaths\/?page_id=40"},"modified":"2022-10-03T11:29:53","modified_gmt":"2022-10-03T11:29:53","slug":"s2-maths","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/kilsythacademymaths\/s2-maths\/","title":{"rendered":"3rd Level &#8211; Maths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Third Level Maths Course will develop your ability to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>develop a secure understanding of th<span class=\"PageContentLeft\">e concepts, principles and processes of mathematics and apply these in different contexts, including the world of work <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"PageContentLeft\">engage with more abstract mathematical concepts and develop important new kinds of thinking<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"PageContentLeft\">understand the application of maths, its impact on society past and present, and its potential for the future <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"PageContentLeft\">develop essential numeracy skills which will allow me to participate fully in society <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"PageContentLeft\">establish firm foundations for further specialist learning <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"PageContentLeft\">understand that successful independent living requires financial awareness, effective money management, using schedules and other related skills <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"PageContentLeft\">interpret numerical information appropriately and use it to draw conclusions, assess risk, and make reasoned evaluations and informed decisions <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"PageContentLeft\">apply skills and understanding creatively and logically to solve problems, within a variety of contexts <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"PageContentLeft\">appreciate how the imaginative and <\/span>effective use of technologies can enhance the development of skills and concepts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"style14\"><u><strong>Course Content <\/strong><\/u><br \/>\nThere are five blocks of work in this course. You can see the topics covered in each block using this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/kilsythacademymaths\/uploads\/sites\/33851\/2022\/10\/03112922\/Third-level-Timeline-ladder-KA.pdf\"><strong>Third Level Timeline Ladder<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Parents can get some extra information on the blocks of work your child will follow below:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/kilsythacademymaths\/uploads\/sites\/33851\/2018\/10\/S1-Information-Night-Level-3.pptx\">Block 1 Parental Support Booklet<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><u><strong>Assessment Overview<\/strong><\/u><br \/>\nPupils will be assessed in the following ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Class assessments are completed over the course of the year a<span class=\"PageContentLeft\">t the end of each block of work. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"PageContentLeft\">As well as a test result, pupils\u00a0will complete\u00a0self evaluation\u00a0sheets that indicate their progress within the Third level, their strengths and areas for development.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"PageContentLeft\">Progress is also monitored through pupils day-to-day classwork<\/span>,\u00a0project work\u00a0and homework exercises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><u><strong>Homework<\/strong><\/u><br \/>\nFormal hand-in homework should be expected at least every fortnight. This homework will be marked and feedback given to pupils. As well as completing formal homework, pupils may be asked to complete the exercises started in class to ensure thorough understanding of the topics covered. If a pupil is experiencing difficulty with any part of the course, he\/she should speak to their teacher and ask for help.
