They research topics, apply scientific skills and communicate information related to their findings, which develops skills of scientific literacy.<br \/>\nThe course content includes the following areas of environmental science:<br \/>\n<strong>Unit 1<\/strong> &#8211; Living environment<br \/>\nThe key areas covered are: investigating ecosystems and biodiversity; interdependence; human influences on biodiversity.<br \/>\n<strong>Unit 2<\/strong> &#8211; Earth\u2019s resources<br \/>\nThe key areas covered are: an overview of Earth systems and their interactions; the geosphere; the hydrosphere; the biosphere; the atmosphere.<br \/>\n<strong>Unit 3<\/strong> &#8211; Sustainability<br \/>\nThe key areas covered are: an introduction to sustainability; food; water; energy; waste management.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><em>The Course Assessment has Two Components<\/em><\/u><\/strong>.<br \/>\n<strong>Component 1:<\/strong><br \/>\nQuestion Paper<br \/>\n100 marks during 2 hours and\u00a030 minutes exam<br \/>\n<strong>Component 2:<\/strong><br \/>\nAssignment<br \/>\nA research and written piece of work which is completed under exam conditions within the classroom<br \/>\n20 marks<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Progression<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nOther qualifications in biology\/human<br \/>\nbiology or related areas<br \/>\nFurther study, employment or training<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><u>Conditions of Award<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nThe grade awarded is based on the total marks achieved through the question paper and assignment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National 5 Candidates gain an understanding of environmental science through a variety of approaches, including practical activities.
