{"id":639,"date":"2019-01-26T11:55:26","date_gmt":"2019-01-26T11:55:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/kilsythacademy\/?p=639"},"modified":"2019-01-26T11:59:04","modified_gmt":"2019-01-26T11:59:04","slug":"kilsyth-academy-news-25-1-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/kilsythacademy\/2019\/01\/26\/kilsyth-academy-news-25-1-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Kilsyth Academy News &#8211; 25\/1\/19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>Burns Supper<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nOur annual <em><strong>Burns Supper<\/strong><\/em> will take place on <em><strong>Tuesday 5<sup>th<\/sup> February<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 This event is entirely organised by senior pupils as part of their Leadership award.\u00a0 This year both <strong><em>Findlay Sword<\/em><\/strong> and <em><strong>Ewan Chalmers<\/strong><\/em> are leading what will be a very enjoyable event. Tickets are now on sale priced at <em><strong>\u00a312<\/strong><\/em> and can be purchased from <em><strong>Findlay Sword<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><u>Dance<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nThree junior school pupils recently attended a Dance workshop run by the world famous <em><strong>Pineapple Dance Studios<\/strong><\/em> at <em><strong>Greenfaulds High School<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 <em><strong>Samantha Graham, Gracie Currie and Aimee MacDonald<\/strong> <\/em>experienced some creative choreography and a fantastic opportunity to improve their technique.\u00a0 In addition to this, four of our junior Dance Leaders in the school are linking with <em><strong>Balmalloch Primary<\/strong> <\/em>school to take their Primary 2 and 3 pupils for dance sessions.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><u>Inter-house competition<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nHouse Captains will be visiting classes across this week to encourage pupils to sign up to compete in the next Inter-house event, our annual Cross Country Championships. We ask for your support as parents to encourage as many pupils to sign up as possible remembering pupils that points will also be awarded to houses for the highest level of participation as well as for race places. You don\u2019t have to be the best runner, participation counts and this is a great opportunity for all of our pupils to be involved in a healthy pursuit and the wider life of the school.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><u>Sports clubs<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nThis term a number of new clubs will start up the week beginning the 4th February. \u00a0Activities on offer include <em><strong>Badminton, Tennis, Volleyball, Junior Netball, Handball<\/strong> <\/em>and <em><strong>Indoor Football.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 There are posters promoting these around the school and further information is available by looking on the <em><strong>Active Schools Noticeboard<\/strong> <\/em>outside the back gym.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><u>Girls football<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nGirls are invited to come and join our girls\u2019 football club which takes place in the back gym <em><strong>every Thursday from 4.00 to 5.00pm<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 This is a great opportunity for our girls to become involved in the national sport, learn new skills and make new friends, all under the guidance of SFA coach and former professional <em><strong>Robert McGraw.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><u>Library news<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nThe library is open at lunch time Mon-Thurs for personal reading, writing, drawing, board games, homework, study, research and more.\u00a0 As of<em><strong> Monday 21<sup>st<\/sup> January<\/strong><\/em>, entry to the library at lunch time for S1-S4 is by pass only. \u00a0You can pick up a pass in the morning before school and at break time. \u00a0Seniors do not need to collect a pass.<\/p>\n<p>Our first ever <em><strong>Inter-house Reading Challenge<\/strong> <\/em>starts <em><strong>Monday 4<sup>th<\/sup> Feb 2019.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 Everyone can get involved and participate in winning points for your house and the house that reads the most books wins.\u00a0 Teachers can also get involved as everything they read can count towards final totals as well.\u00a0 This is an event that everyone, pupils and staff can take part in with the challenge running until the 31<sup>st<\/sup> May, so you have plenty time to read lots and lots of books.\u00a0 Progress in the challenge will be on display outside the library so everyone can keep up to date.\u00a0 See Mrs Smith in the Library for challenge rules and information on how to participate.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><u>Paris Trip<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nThe next instalment of <em><strong>\u00a375<\/strong><\/em> for the Paris Trip is due by the end of January.
