We want every child to develop the skills and confidence they need to become effective communicators, enthusiastic readers and successful writers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Children develop their literacy skills through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reading, writing, talking and listening<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working with others and sharing ideas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exploring a wide range of books, texts and digital media<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building vocabulary and language skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Giving and receiving feedback to improve their learning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learning about different cultures, languages and experiences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We follow the <strong>North Lanarkshire Literacy Strategy<\/strong>, using a range of engaging learning approaches that encourage children to take an active role in their learning. Reading and writing are a key priority across the school, supported by structured phonics and spelling programmes and regular opportunities to develop literacy skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Developing a Love of Reading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We place a strong emphasis on reading for enjoyment. From Primary 1 onwards, children are encouraged to read regularly and develop positive reading habits that will support them throughout their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our aim is for every child to become a confident, independent reader who enjoys books and values reading as an important life skill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Literacy Across the Curriculum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Literacy is not taught in isolation.
