Transition to Secondary School
Moving to secondary school is an important milestone, and we work closely with our pupils, families and partner schools to ensure a smooth and successful transition.
Transition activities begin in Primary 6, with children taking part in a variety of experiences designed to build confidence and prepare them for the move to secondary school. These include curriculum-based events, challenges, competitions and opportunities to work with secondary school staff.
Throughout Primary 6 and Primary 7, pupils have opportunities to:
- Visit their future secondary school
- Take part in subject-specific learning activities
- Meet secondary teachers and senior leaders
- Develop the skills and confidence needed for the move to S1
- Learn more about life in secondary school
Most pupils from Kildrum Primary School transfer to Cumbernauld Academy. In June, Primary 7 pupils attend a three-day transition programme, where they experience a secondary timetable, sample different subjects and become familiar with their new school environment.
Our staff work closely with colleagues in secondary schools to share information about each child’s learning, wellbeing and support needs. This helps ensure that every pupil receives the best possible start to the next stage of their education.
Parents and carers are kept informed throughout the transition process and are provided with information about key dates and arrangements.
We are proud of the strong partnership we have with our associated secondary schools, helping our pupils make the move to secondary education with confidence, excitement and a sense of readiness for the opportunities ahead.
