Yesterday the children in room 14 had a visit from Tom Winters who is a professional chef and works in Bar 91. He made butternut squash soup with us.
Getting Ready
First we washed our hands with soapĀ and water. Then chef (we called him that) got a black bag and inside it was knoves. He picked out a sharp chopping knife to cut the butternut squash. Then he got out a big machine called a thermomix. It does everything like blend, chop and boil. We were excited to see how it works.
Demonstration
He demonstrated lots of things like cutting onions, dicing, slicing super fast and showing us how to slice a baton. Then we had a competition to seeĀ who could cut the best cubes, batons and thinnest slice. We were all given chopping boards and knives. I sliced the butternut squash thinner than anyone!
Cooking
While we were waiting on the soup cooking we made dips with greek yoghurt. One of them was horseradish, another was curry and the other was cajun spice. We all tried a bit on a carrot stick.
Tasting
The soup was ready, so some of us tried a bit in a plastic cup. It tasted really good.
Looking forward
In the future I would like to teach my gran how to make the soup and have another chef come in. I really enjoyed it.
Looks nice
