Fun at Kelburn

On Thursday the children in P6 had a fantastic trip to Kelburn Country Park near Largs. They had fun exploring the Secret Forest and Adventure Trail and they even got to do a spot of Bushcraft! Here are some pictures of our fabulous day in the outdoors!

Gunge the Teacher

DSCN2024

All this week the children have been voting for the staff members they would most like to see gunged today. They paid 20p to buy a sticker, which they stuck on a chart below the picture of the person they wanted to see covered in gunge. They voted in their droves and raised £100 for the P7 prom and school funds. Mrs Hepburn was the clear winner and voting for her had to be stopped by Wednesday so the pupils could decide who would be the second victim of the gunging. It was a close contest, but Mrs Doris narrowly took the lead when voting closed last night. Everyone had lots of fun watching each class representative pouring the gunge over their chosen victim. Both ladies were super sports and left school smelling strangely of custard!!!!

Farewell to the Fabulous Three

DSCN1966

This morning we held a very special assembly to say goodbye to three well loved staff members who are hanging up their school shoes next week when they retire. We celebrated all the hard work put in by Mr Kennedy, Mrs Doris and Mrs Graham, as each class did their own special performance for them. There were lots of laughs and plenty of tears as we shared our special memories through, sketches, stories, poems and songs. Mrs Graham also treated everyone to a poem she had written in thanks. We wish them all the very best in the next stage of their lives and hope they know that we will all miss them very much.

Just Call Me The Pied Piper!

The children in Primaries 5, 6 and 7 have been really busy rehearsing for their senior show, “Just Call Me The Pied Piper”. They had their dress rehearsal this morning and are all set to impress their friends and families when they take to the stage again tonight and tomorrow for their actual performances.

Trip To Sky Studios

On Friday 15th May P6 from Room 14 went to Sky Studios and made news reports called Access To Education.

Booking In                                                                                                                                   First, we walked into this massive room and all sat down on the colourful tables and matching seats. There was a massive TV that was on the wall and the channel that it had on it was Nickelodeon. There were Minions on the walls and some people got to do a survey on ipads, I did one , it was not bad. There were 4 leaders: 1 for every studio. Studio 1 had Chloe, Studio 2 (my studio) had Abbie, Studio 3 had Pamela and Studio 4 had Cammy.

Cinematic room                                                                                                                     Then we went to this big room also known as The Cinematic room where we watched videos about how Sky TV gets made and gets to your house.

Skills Studios                                                                                                                             In the skills studios we all had different roles. We started by writing the script then the editor picked a background and named the report, then the camera operator shot the report. After that we got the producer and the director to do the voiceovers then we went back to shooting the second half of the report. When we finished we sent the report to The Master Screen.

The Tour                                                                                                                                     We split into 2 lots of groups so Studio 1 and Studio 2 were together and Studio 3 and Studio 4 were together. We went to this massive office area and they were having a party! After that we went to another office area but they weren’t having a party. We were all super hungry and our leader, Abbie tormented us by taking a shortcut through a restaurant! Then we went back to The Cinematic Room.

The Finished Products                                                                                                        We watched all the finished news reports. We all nearly died of laughing too hard, even Mrs Whomes!! When we had watched all the videos Chloe handed us a USB bracelet with our videos inside and a certificate each.

We really enjoyed this trip and we would recommend it to everyone!!!!!

Chefs At School Visit

Yesterday the children in room 14 had a visit from Tom Winters who is a professional chef and works in Bar 91. He made butternut squash soup with us.

Getting Ready

First we washed our hands with soap  and water. Then chef (we called him that) got a black bag and inside it was knoves. He picked out a sharp chopping knife to cut the butternut squash. Then he got out a big machine called a thermomix. It does everything like blend, chop and boil. We were excited to see how it works.

Demonstration

He demonstrated lots of things like cutting onions, dicing, slicing super fast and showing us how to slice a baton. Then we had a competition to see  who could cut the best cubes, batons and thinnest slice. We were all given chopping boards and knives. I sliced the butternut squash thinner than anyone!

Cooking

While we were waiting on the soup cooking we made dips with greek yoghurt. One of them was horseradish, another was curry and the other was cajun spice. We all tried a bit on a carrot stick.

Tasting

The soup was ready, so some of us tried a bit in a plastic cup. It tasted really good.

Looking forward

In the future I would like to teach my gran how to make the soup and have another chef come in. I really enjoyed it.

Outside Swimming Pool

In the Easter holidays I went to Anstruther and there is a small village called Cellardyke. In Cellardyke there is an outdoor swimming pool. When we went to visit the pool the tide was in so we didn’t see much of it but we did see the small pool. There was a book of what Anstruther looked like ages ago and we found a picture of the pool so my dad took a picture of it. Here it is.IMG_1965

In this picture everything was not able to fit in but it was much bigger.
