The annual celebration of the feast day of Saint Aidan was celebrated by Bishop Toal on Thursday. This major event in the school year sees the new first year students and our sixth year join together for the occasion.
Fantastic contributions by the school band and choir created a tremendous atmosphere and the opportunity was taken to acknowledge the thousands of pounds raised for charity by the school community over the last year.
Bishop Toal commented, “It is good to get the opportunity to honour Saint Aidan and reflect on his sainthood. I don’t always get the opportunity to work with such a big group of young people. Saint Aidan’s High School is a great community. I always feel at home here; you get the sense that people are cared for.”
Bishop Toal was greeted as he arrived by our new Captains Team. Vice-Captain, Aidan Campbell was asked how he felt about the day and explained, “It’s a privilege to work with pupils, staff and the wider community.”
We asked Head Teacher, Mrs Connelly, why she thought this annual mass is important in our school community. She commented, “The feast day mass is all about being proud of our identity, about who we are. We are a Catholic school, we are inspired by Saint Aidan, that’s who we are named after and his story was of taking faith to many people to make their lives better. So, for us it is absolutely imperative that we celebrate this day because first and foremost we are here to develop young people in their faith so that they become the best that they can be, and go out into the world, use their talents, help and serve others and generally contribute to making the world a better place”
Great article which aptly reflects such a special day for the school. Well done!
