6th year student Christopher Winters has been tackling some big issues recently, as he does on a daily basis as a member of the North Lanarkshire youth council.
Christopher Winters ventured out and represented North Lanarkshire by himself eager to battle the issues of plastic pollution in the oceans and how this has a major lingering impact on our waters and wildlife. The event lasted the weekend and was opened up to an age range of 14-20. The event involved young people from all different areas from all over Scotland.
This event was a great chance to meet new people and hear other people’s thoughts on the topic of plastic pollution. Although the event at the Glasgow’s science centre was a competition and the atmosphere was very serious the young people also were given the opportunity to explore the centre and see the different things it had to offer.
The competition took place on the 19th to the 21st of October where the young people were divided from all the different areas of Scotland and came into teams of four or five. These teams were given the same issue to discuss and research and they finally had to pitch the idea they came up with to all the other participants.
Christopher’s team was very successful and are going through to the final with the goal to win and get the opportunity to receive VIP tickets to blue planet two live. This would be a massive opportunity to see the documentary on our oceans by David Attenborough a massive voice in wildlife and issues revolving around this.
Furthermore, the winning idea may be put into place by the SSE Hydro, a partner of the event. The whole event was a massive success and all the participants seemed the really enjoy the event as it was quite popular and will most likely take part again next year.
