Press Project

As weary as I was at the start to begin this project, I put my all in and got a lot back from it. I was able to develop interviewing skills and become more confident in talking to others outside my social group, it also gave me the opportunity to talk to various different kinds of people such as; Head coordinator of Chris’s house, Bishop Toal, students and teachers alike, getting their opinions of different situations. Being able to publish my work in our local press gave me more confidence and editing skills I wouldn’t have learned without taking part in this class. It taught me to work fast and efficiently in order to catch tight deadlines.

  • I learned how to carry out a professional and good interview
  • I enjoyed having my work published
  • I would have pushed the Wishaw press more to give our articles more full pages.

Blog

This project broadened my online editing skills, Being online also widened our audience and made me feel more professional and excited in my work. Working out how to add extra little effects to my writing such as; emoji’s, gifs and clips was useful. It also let me express myself freely and give my opinion on school life, my own interests and world news. It allowed me to put my newfound tech skills to use as I took part in creating the logo for our blog.

  • I learned how to insert gifs and publish relatable and relevant posts
  • I enjoyed being able to my give own opinion and unique twist on my posts eg. Pics and clips
  • I would have wanted to write a lot more

Victoria Park Film

I took control of creating a set for our video interviews, I found and set up lighting and a background to make our film look more professional. Seeing how excited our interviewees were at being on the set and on camera was really rewarding. Editing the clips and testing microphone sound for voice overs were also skills I developed.

  • I learned how to use and edit footage on iMovie
  • I enjoyed creating the film set
  • I would have pushed to get interviews from more people whom were unavailable

Mental Health Awareness

I was part of the small group that was able to visit Chris’ house and interview the volunteers and Anne herself in the heart of the organisation. I was really happy to able to raise awareness for a subject that hit so close to home personally. Hearing what Chris’s house does for the local society and the type of help they offer made spreading its message more worthwhile and important. I also carried out hard hitting, emotional interviews from two girls whom has experience loss first hand from suicide, although it was hard it was important to stay professional and work hard to get their message across in its truest and best form.

  • I learned how carry out tough interviews professionally
  • I enjoyed visiting Chris’ house and spreading its important work and message
  • I would have gotten more involved in the voice overs.
