Generations of Scottish children have acted as mini-messengers, couriering literally millions of notes between schools and their parents. This has been done via the “schoolbag run”, when sometimes important information has been entrusted for delivery after being crumpled in beside jotters, PE kits and the remains of today’s packed lunch. This is not a good way to communicate. Who knows how many letters have been lost or how many appointment sheets have gone unfilled? Fortunately, the solution is at hand.
North Lanarkshire Council along with the Improvement Service (IS) and SEEMiS are helping drag these communications into the 21st century. By using digital technology, we can make life easier for the parents of North Lanarkshire’s 56,000 schoolchildren – while also reducing the administrative burden on schools.
parentsportal.scot will provides access to a suite of online services, including information about a child’s education and also transactions such as granting permission for school trips, applying for placement requests, or making bookings for parents’ evenings.
We know from a studies that parents want the convenience of conducting this type of business with schools online, and that they want it accessible on one site. The Parents Portal makes a huge contribution as the council and schools seek to focus resource and time on frontline education.
