Good morning to one and all.

It’s Day 3 of the P7 trip to Yorkshire. We’re heading to the beautiful city of York today and have a ghost walk, river cruise and visit to the Yorvik Centre to look forward to. This evening, we’ll be off down the coast to Bridlington for a few games of ten pin bowling. Another fun day in store!

Thank you Primary 2, 3/2, 4 and all our parents and friends for your recent comments. We’ve loved reading them and they’ve really helped keep homesickness at bay (with a little help too from the lorne sausage we had for breakfast!… Did the hotel import it all the way from Scotland just for St Bart’s??!!).

Have a good day, everyone.

Kings of the Castle!

We’ve taken advantage of another beautiful, sunny evening and headed into central Scarborough. Dylan H, Caitlyn, Rhys and Ellie used up £2 of their spending money to visit the ‘Tower of Terror’. Thankfully, they lived to tell the tale!

Scarborough Castle, which sits way above the town, was too hard to resist, so we’ve scaled the hill and are now enjoying the sunset over the North Bay from the summit. Bliss! It’s a lovely end to another fantastic day.

G’night Townhead!

Our morning in adverbs, especially for P6!

Thank you Primary 1 & Primary 6 for your messages. Primary 6 are looking for more adverbs in the blog, so here goes!

We woke up excitedly in the hotel this morning to see the sun shining brilliantly through the windows. The boys and girls ate their breakfast of sausage, bacon and egg hungrily before jumping briskly onto the coach and promptly heading off to the Sealife Centre. It was a fantastic trip where we had the chance to see giant turtles floating calmly in the pools, seals relaxing lazily in the sun, seahorses swimming daintily between the rocks and St Bart’s pupils gleefully exploring the treasures of the gift shop! Hope that’s enough adverbs, Primary 6!

We’re back on the bus now and off to Eden Camp World War II museum… it’s going to be a great afternoon! Hope the sun’s shining in Coatbridge!

Tuesday 4th June 2013

Greetings from sunny Scarborough!

First of all, thank you to everyone who has left us a message… we’re really enjoying hearing from you!

We had a great first day yesterday. Our first port of call was Gretna where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch and a chill-out in the park. We were also entertained by a piper while he waited for the next wedding to arrive!

We then headed across the border and down to Beamish. This outdoor museum was like stepping back in time to the Victorian era. The children had the opportunity to explore the various authentic shops and they also got to ride on a tram and a 150 year old steam engine.

It was then time to head to Scarborough, our final destination and base for the rest of the week. We are staying in a fantastic hotel which we have all to ourselves. The owners are treating us like royalty… we even had a cooked breakfast this morning!

Back in St Bartholomew’s, this is the last week we are collecting items for ‘Mary’s Meals’. We are looking for donations of shorts, t-shirts, summer skirts, sandals and flip-flops over the next few days. These do not need to be brand new but should be in good condition.

Mrs O’Neill received a very generous donation yesterday from Andrew (P6), Rachael (P4) and Stella (P2) who gifted a substantial amount of money from their holiday savings towards ‘Mary’s Meals’. Rachael also donated some of her First Communion money. Andrew decided to organise this along with his sisters after watching the film ‘Child 31’. Thank you, all three of you, for your kindness and generosity. Your money will make a huge difference to the lives of children your age in some of the poorest parts of the world.

Mrs Bolland told me on the phone last night that everyone behaved and work very well yesterday. I’m missing you all! Have a good day, everyone.

Monday 3rd June 2013

Good morning, everyone.  Hope you all enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend.

Well, the big day has arrived: some of our P7 pupils will be jumping on a coach around 9.45 this morning (along with myself and Mrs McBride) and heading off to Yorkshire for a week-long excursion.  I’ll continue to write my blog while away to keep everyone up-to-date with what we’re up to on our trip.  Keep logging on!

As you know, the floor in the foyer is being replaced.  Contractors will level out the floor after school today, so the main entrance will be closed off from 3.30pm onwards.  Similarly, the new flooring will be fitted after school tomorrow so, once again, the front door will be out of commission from 3.30pm.  Apologies for any inconvenience.

Mrs MacIntyre and Mrs Bolland will be in charge during my absence and will be able to deal with any urgent issues or queries.

Have a good Monday!

!!!MORE BREAKING NEWS!!!

It’s certainly a day for good news here at St Bartholomew’s. The Primary 7’s took part in a Gaelic football tournament at St Ambrose today against five other schools and walked away with the winning shield! Well done on your fantastic victory, boys and girls! We’re so proud of you!!!

!!!BREAKING NEWS!!!

The impeccable manners, friendly smiles and expert bag-packing of our ten Primary 6’s managed to raise the fantastic sum of £360 at Asda this morning! Well done, boys and girls!.. not bad for two hours work! Many thanks to the team of parents who willingly gave of their time to supervise the children this morning – we couldn’t have managed without you.

Friday 31st May 2013

First of all, thank you to our two parents who left our first ever comments on the blog: two about our successful sports day and one about the wonderful kindness of Erin in P6.  It was so encouraging to receive your feedback and I hope it gets the ball rolling – we’d love to hear from other parents and friends of the school!  You can view the comments by clicking on ‘comment’ underneath ‘Wednesday 29th May’.  Thank you again!

P7 are off to a Gaelic football tournament at St Ambrose High School this morning.  Good luck, boys and girls – do us proud!

We also have ten Primary 6’s heading off to Asda first thing this morning to do some bag-packing.  They’re aiming to raise much needed funds to help pay for next week’s P1-6 disco and the Primary 7 beach party at the end of June.  Hope it goes well, team!  Remember to smile!

Our new P1’s had the chance to spend part of yesterday afternoon in their new classroom with Mrs Carlin.  They were absolute superstars!  Mrs Carlin and I were ultra impressed with how well the boys and girls lined up, walked along the corridor, sat, listened and drew.  We can’t wait to welcome this fantastic new intake of pupils to St Bartholomew’s in August!

I will be away in York with some of our P7’s for the whole of next week.  We have a fantastic five days lined up including a trip to Eden Camp war museum, a river trip, a visit to the Yorvik Centre and a day at Flamingo Land theme park.  Mrs MacIntyre and Mrs Bolland will hold the fort in my absence and will be available to deal with any issues or queries.  Of course, my blog will continue to be updated on a daily basis (the wonders of the iPhone!) to fill you in on all our news from York.

Have a great weekend, everyone.
