Miss Murphy\/Mrs Byrne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>P5 are just amazed at the speed in which the beginning of the school year has flown past.\u00a0 Lots of\u00a0 challenges were presented to them\u00a0 \u00a0which they have embraced whole heartedly,\u00a0 whether this be in Literacy, (Reading\/Writing\/Spelling\u00a0 \u00a0Maths,\u00a0 \u00a0H&amp;WB,\u00a0 R.E, Science, Expressive Arts etc.<\/p>\n<p>R.E\/LITERACY\/\u00a0 EXPRESSIVE ARTS\u00a0 &amp; INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNING\u00a0 (IDL)<\/p>\n<p>Throughout their journey so far the children have been revisiting and adding to their knowledge of \u00a0Liturgical Colours and Seasons.\u00a0 For example from August to November the liturgical Colour and Season is represented by the\u00a0 Colour Green.\u00a0 And the \u00a0children had their first P5 opportunity to represent their school at Holy Family Church\u00a0 for their First Friday Mass in October. This is the Month \u00a0which is dedicated to the Holy Rosary,\u00a0 With our Lady of the Rosary celebrated on October the 7th.\u00a0 The children\u00a0 Introduced the Mass,\u00a0 Some had the opportunity to Read, Bring the Offertory, Say bidding Prayers and lead the Singing\u00a0 with the rest of the school and congregation.\u00a0 \u00a0They prepared so diligently for this and did so well.\u00a0 We are all\u00a0 so very proud of them.\u00a0 Well done Children.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;ST ANDREW&#8217;\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0PATRON SAINT OF SCOTLAND<\/p>\n<p>The feast of\u00a0 St Andrew is on Saturday 30 November.\u00a0 \u00a0The children have been learning about him and how he came from being one of Jesus Apostles, being present during the feeding of the 5,000\u00a0 with the loaves and the fishes, to\u00a0 becoming the Patron Saint of Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>The children made\u00a0 St Andrews day flags, and learned Scottish songs.\u00a0 In the photo&#8217;s below this post, you will see All the classes celebrating and sharing their St Andrews day, in song together.<\/p>\n<p>Also many of our P5 children have joined our School Choir run by Mrs Cook and Mrs Preston. attending\u00a0 lunch time and after school practises.\u00a0 \u00a0All of our Children in the choir, from all classes in the school are already wonderful ambassadors for our\u00a0 school, singing at First Friday mass, Confirmations etc., and\u00a0 making us all so very proud of them at every opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>REFLECTING ON LEARNING &amp; ASSESSMENT<\/p>\n<p>As Part of their learning, the Children are reflecting on what they have learned.\u00a0 Looking at approaches and\u00a0 strategies that could be used\u00a0 to help them to develop and progress in\u00a0 their learning.\u00a0 Asking questions.\u00a0 What have they achieved so far?\u00a0 \u00a0What strategies work best for them as individuals.\u00a0 \u00a0To help with this, they\u00a0 are working to\u00a0 develop,\u00a0 their self\/peer assessment\u00a0 skills.<\/p>\n<p>LITERACY<\/p>\n<p>For Example In\u00a0 Literacy if you see the coloured highlighters discussed below, in your children&#8217;s Jotters this is what they mean.<\/p>\n<p>The children (along with their teachers) are using coloured highlighters to assess their own and their peer&#8217;s work.<strong> &#8216;Pink&#8217; <\/strong>for<strong> &#8216;Stop and Think<\/strong>&#8216; (for example, encouraging the children to take a second look at perhaps grammar or spelling etc,. what ever is highlighted.)\u00a0 and<strong> &#8216;Green&#8217;<\/strong> for<strong> &#8216;Great to be Seen&#8217;<\/strong>.\u00a0 (Highlighting a well written sentence perhaps, or the use of exciting, descriptive words, in their piece of writing, encouraging their reader to want to read on.)\u00a0 These colours can, at a glance, inform how they approach their next piece of writing too.\u00a0 Perhaps that they are already on the right\u00a0 path, and\/or how\u00a0 they could perhaps make an already great piece of work, even better.<\/p>\n<p>MATHS &amp; NUMERACY &amp;\u00a0 (IDL) Science\/Writing\/Measure\/Expressive Arts<\/p>\n<p>Estimating and Rounding, Number and Number Processes. Multiples, Factors and Primes and Measurement.<\/p>\n<p>The children have had a very busy few months and have been working hard on these areas of Maths and Numeracy. They have particularly enjoyed actively participating in a variety of ways,\u00a0 For example P5 used their Accurate measuring skills to work as part of a team, to make milk shakes, using\u00a0 variable amounts of\u00a0 a specific ingredient for taste and consistency.\u00a0 The also recorded their preferred ingredients in the form of a recipe as part of a Writing Lesson.<\/p>\n<p>MINI-TOPIC REMEMBRANCE DAY\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 FUNDRAISER POPPY FRIDAY<\/p>\n<p>As well as the Milk shakes\u00a0 the children really enjoyed Making Poppy Biscuits for their Poppy Friday Fundraiser with P4\/5. .\u00a0 This time they also\u00a0 use their estimating skills for the icing, colouring and filling for their biscuits.\u00a0 Some children preferred to make\u00a0 their\u00a0 icing\/filling\u00a0 \u00a0thinner\/thicker than others. Some preferred the red colour to be deep red some lighter.\u00a0 So these were the variables in this instance and also where the estimating skills came to the fore.\u00a0 The children did a fantastic job.<\/p>\n<p>The Poppy Friday Fundraiser included a Poppy Biscuits tables. and prior to this, all classes were provided with resources to make poppies to create a fantastic display of their work on the run up to Poppy Friday.\u00a0 \u00a0There was also craft tables,\u00a0 face\/hand painting, art , ICT and Snap Shot Picture, tables, as well as the Remembrance Poppy Merchandise and Poppy Bear Raffle Tables, with our\u00a0 &#8216;Remembrance Day Poppy Bear&#8217; Wearing his Holy Family school uniform and his Poppy.<\/p>\n<p>The children did a fantastic Job and Raised over \u00a3120 on the sale of Raffle tickets alone.\u00a0 So very well done P5 and P4\/5.<\/p>\n<p>TOPIC :<\/p>\n<p>PLANET EARTH:\u00a0 SPACE<\/p>\n<p>The children have really enjoyed learning about The Solar System, and conducting\u00a0 their own research at home and trying to find more information about their favourite planets, how they rotate and affect the seasons.\u00a0 They have really enjoyed bringing in and\u00a0 sharing their findings and\u00a0 special\u00a0 pieces of information with the class.<\/p>\n<p>BLACK HISTORY MONTH\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0KATHERINE JOHNSON &amp; NASA<\/p>\n<p>The children decided that the person they would like to find out\u00a0 more about during black history month was Katherine Johnson. The cam back with lots of information.\u00a0 Finding out that she was a Mathematician and Scientist and who eventually, was employed by Nasa.\u00a0 The children presented their findings at Assembly .\u00a0 Many of\u00a0 of the children&#8217;s favourite piece of information was that\u00a0 after all her hard work and dedication to her job, she was held in such high regard and trusted so much by the astronaut John Glen, that he would not fly unless Katherine Johnson approved the calculations.<\/p>\n<p>ICT<\/p>\n<p>As well as using their ICT time, to investigate and research topics also\u00a0 making sure their\u00a0 facts are from a trusted, reputable source.\u00a0 The children have also been learning and developing their\u00a0 ICT\u00a0 skills,\u00a0 For example.\u00a0 \u00a0Note taking, and\u00a0 learning to use their notes to write\/add to gathered information.\u00a0 \u00a0They are also developing their skills and knowledge about their way around their laptop and keys.\u00a0 The have also been learning to Write a formal\u00a0 e.mail,\u00a0 using formal language.\u00a0 \u00a0Learning also about layout, headings and content.\u00a0 Also that it is important to sign off correctly.\u00a0 The children have also been learning about appropriate content language and how to use all technologies respectfully in an appropriate manner.<\/p>\n<p>H&amp;WB :\u00a0 RESPECT for OTHERS ALWAYS<\/p>\n<p>As the children continue to learn\u00a0 about showing respect for others and themselves, and also understanding emotions and feelings,\u00a0 through &#8216;Emotionworks&#8217;\u00a0 these were\u00a0 highlighted particular from \u00a0the 11th-17th November during Anti-Bullying Week.\u00a0 The theme &#8216;Showing Respect for Others&#8217;,\u00a0 and focuses on ways of prevention.\u00a0 During discussions the children decided that being kind and treating other the way we would always want to be treated would\u00a0 be the\u00a0 best way to show respect for others.<\/p>\n<p>P.E.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the children look forward to P.E.\u00a0 However over the last few months they have been particularly excited and some a little wary too, but did look forward to the Swim and Gym Sessions at the Sir Matt Busby Centre.\u00a0 The children embraced their challenges and a lot of learning has been done.\u00a0 We hope you had a wonderful learning experience everyone and be very proud of what you have achieved so far in these areas of P.E.<\/p>\n<p>Well done so far everyone.\u00a0 We are so proud of you,\u00a0 Keep working hard as we approach and move into the Month of December and into the Special Season of Advent and Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>P5 are just amazed at the speed in which the beginning of the school year has flown past.\u00a0 Lots of\u00a0 challenges were presented to them\u00a0 \u00a0which they have embraced whole heartedly,\u00a0 whether this be in Literacy, (Reading\/Writing\/Spelling\u00a0 \u00a0Maths,\u00a0 \u00a0H&amp;WB,\u00a0 R.E, Science, Expressive Arts etc. R.E\/LITERACY\/\u00a0 EXPRESSIVE ARTS\u00a0 &amp; INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNING\u00a0 (IDL) Throughout their journey so &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/holyfamily\/2024\/12\/01\/p5-november-reflection-and-snap-shot-of-our-achievement-so-far-miss-murphy-mrs-byrne\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">P5  November Reflection and Snap shot of our Achievement So Far.
