We are working hard in primary 4 to establish good routines and habits to help us to become more independent. This includes tidying up the classroom, taking care of resources and knowing what is expected of us in our written tasks. Our teachers are seeing that we are all making progress. However, we are not in competition with each other so it’s ok that we go at our own rate. We all need different levels of support within class.<\/p>\n

Numeracy and Mathematics<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are continuing to work on Place Value. The Circle group are identifying numbers up to ten thousand and are working on adding and subtracting 10\/100\/50\/500. The Square group are working on hundreds and identifying numbers on a 100 square. We are also revising the 2, 5 and 10 Times Tables before moving on to others. Our teachers have found that regular practise throughout the year gets the best results.<\/p>\n

In Number Talks we have been working on strategies for Addition. We talk about our strategies and this helps everyone to feel more confident. Some people use straight forward strategies, like making tens and others like to add the tens first then the units, for example.<\/p>\n

In maths and numeracy, we have been engaged in a comprehensive exploration of 2D and 3D shapes. We have been gaining a solid understanding of shapes’ properties and their application to the real world. Furthermore, <\/span>through various hands-on activities we<\/span>\u00a0have been <\/span>learning<\/span>\u00a0about measurement, encompassing concepts such as length, height, <\/span>capacity<\/span>, and mass.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Literacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In literacy,<\/span>\u00a0we\u00a0<\/span>have\u00a0<\/span>been learning about<\/span>\u00a0narrative writing<\/span>. We have been developing their ability to describe<\/span>\u00a0character<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and setting<\/span>s. We have done this by learning about adjectives and how to apply them properly to<\/span>\u00a0our<\/span>\u00a0writing. We<\/span>\u00a0have done an amazing job creating imaginative stories full of fantastic descriptions. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We are now well established in our spelling groups. Our spelling homework is very useful and beneficial, as it supports our work in class. We have been working on phonemes and common words. The Red group has begun new phoneme families with great success and understanding.<\/p>\n

We have now finished our modelling novel so we are all working with our groups. The Red group have begun a short novel, the Blue group are working on a short chapter book and the Yellow group are continuing to explore the reading scheme. Remembering to bring our books in every day makes our tasks easier to do. We are working hard to answer in clear sentences to Prior Knowledge and Inference tasks. We are also doing Metalinguistic work where we find tricky words in our books and use various strategies to work out what they mean. One group enjoyed using a thesaurus!<\/p>\n

Health and Wellbeing<\/strong><\/p>\n

We have been talking about the importance of good hygiene. We know that hand washing is important and have talked about why. We have also discussed dental health and know that drinking water throughout the day is the best choice to protect our teeth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In <\/span>P.E<\/span>\u00a0we have actively <\/span>p<\/span>articipated<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in various fitness games and activities, learning the importance of staying active and <\/span>m<\/span>aintaining<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a healthy lifestyle. These engaging activities not only promote physical fitness but also <\/span>instil<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>valuable life skills and habits. Our teachers<\/span>\u00a0are proud of our enthusiastic engagement and look forward to our continued growth in promoting health and fitness.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

RE<\/strong><\/p>\n

We have finished learning about the Church and the importance of Sundays in our faith. We are working hard on our responses to the Gospel as well as being respectful during prayer time. We are about to start learning about the Rosary for the month of October.<\/p>\n

Topic<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our Titanic wall is really coming on well! Some children worked with Mrs Walker to create an amazing Titanic! We all drew amazing pictures of the Titanic, which are now displayed on our washing line!<\/p>\n

We have been learning about the different classes on Titanic and what their cabins looked like, their clothes, jobs and food. We have also learned about Captain Smith and how he came to be on the Titanic.<\/p>\n
