Scotland, Chinese New Year and winter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We have been learning about Scotland whilst celebrating Robert Burns Day.<\/p>\n

We learned about pattern when making tartan pictures, weaving and putting flags on to the washing line.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"\u00a0<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We learned lots of new Scottish songs; Ally Bally Bee, You canny shove your Granny, Bee Baw Babbity, Donald where\u2019s yer troosers, Wee Willie Winkie. We even performed Ally Bally Bee for the whole school.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We learned to move our body rhythmically, expressively and playfully when practising a few Scottish dances.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I brought my bagpipes to nursery and played a few notes. \u201cYou have to blow really hard\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We tried some Scottish Oatcakes, cheese and shortbread at snack.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We also listened to stories in Scots, learned about the Loch Ness Monster.<\/p>\n

Chinese New Year<\/strong><\/p>\n

We have been learning about Chinese New Year.<\/p>\n

We had a visit from Rong Rong, she came to teach us some interesting things about Chinese New Year.<\/p>\n

She taught us how to say \u201cNi, hao\u201d which means Hello.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Rong Rong showed us how to use chop sticks, it was very hard to pick up the strings with them. She showed us how to play the \u2018Pipa\u2019 and gave us all a turn each at making our own music. Rong Rong was so impressed that we knew the story of the animals for Chinese New Year and that this year will be the year on the Pig.<\/p>\n

We were learning to marks for a purpose when taking orders at the Caf\u00e9. We \u2018wrote\u2019 down the orders and took them to the kitchen to be cooked.<\/p>\n

We used our dancing skills to take part in a lantern dance and learned new skills when preforming the ribbon dance.\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We used our creative skills to decorate some Chinese dragons. We learned a new song called \u201cWe have made ourselves a dragon\u201d and performed it for Rong Rong. She said we were amazing!!!!!<\/p>\n

We tried some Chinese food at snack. We had the opportunity to try rice, noodles and prawn crackers. Our overall favourite was the prawn crackers.<\/p>\n

\u201cRong Rong told us the children get wee envelopes of money\u201d<\/p>\n

Winter<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are learning about winter. In winter it gets cold and we have to put on warm clothes. We are practising our independence skills and helping each other to get the outdoor suits on.<\/p>\n

When outdoors we were investigating how the rain changed into snow. We learned that rain turns into snow when it is really cold. We used the words freezing and frozen to describe the snow.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We were able to transfer the pattern skills we learned, making patterns with our foot prints in the snow. The snow made a crunching sound under our feet. We had fun making snow angels and learned that when our warm body was on the snow it made it melt.<\/p>\n

We explored water and how it changes form when it is hot or cold. We tried a few different experiments putting water in the freezer at nursery, at home and out in the garden. We were able to explore and share our findings about what happened when we then left them somewhere warm.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We are developing our finger strength and control when learning to use scissors to make snowflakes.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

In the winter warm drinks can help us to stay warm. We chose to make hot chocolate, we stayed safe by letting the adult work the microwave and blowing the hot chocolate to cool it down before we drank it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI put a blue and a yellow ice in a bag and it turned green!\u201d<\/p>\n

Toast Club<\/strong><\/p>\n

We went to the big school for toast club. We are learning to line up and to ask the dinner ladies for some toast. This is part of our nursery\/school transition programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
