{"id":13022,"date":"2019-02-01T14:38:25","date_gmt":"2019-02-01T14:38:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/holycrossblog\/?p=13022"},"modified":"2019-02-01T14:38:25","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T14:38:25","slug":"super-soaring-sensational-primary-4s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/holycrossblog\/2019\/02\/01\/super-soaring-sensational-primary-4s\/","title":{"rendered":"Super Soaring  Sensational Primary 4s!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to our blog.\u00a0 Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning lots of new things.\u00a0 Enjoy reading below to find out about our learning in Primary 4.\u00a0 We are so lucky to have another teacher in our class to help us.\u00a0 Her name is Miss Conroy.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Literacy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Infrencing \u2013 we are becoming more confident in using this strategy to help us work out what the author means.<\/p>\n<p>Aliteration \u2013 With Miss Conroy we learned all about alliteration.\u00a0 This is when phrases start with the same letter and sound.\u00a0 For example\u2026Lazy Luca\/ Sunny Sam.\u00a0 We were able to make up sentences for our alliteration with our partners this was fun!<\/p>\n<p><u>Writing<\/u> \u2013 we are continuing to learn about Report writing.\u00a0 We are learning how to write reports and we now know that reports have to have..<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A good title, lots of information\/facts, Opening paragraph, a good \u2018round off\u2019 and finally sub headings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Maths &amp; Numeracy<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This week in maths we have been learning how to use our strategies to help us count 2 digit numbers (32+ 23= 55) (30+20 and then 2+3)<\/p>\n<p>We have also been learning all about directions and the 4 point compass. The magnetic needle always pulls back to North. Learning about the compass is important for us as one day we may need to use these skills.\u00a0 We know that people such as builders and people who work in transport all use the compass.<\/p>\n<p>We have learned a little mnemonic to help us with the compass points <em>(NESW &#8211; Never eat shreaded wheat)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With our directions also learned how to write directions quickly (forward 3= F3) (backwards 3 =B3<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Health &amp; Well Being<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have learned about food hygiene.\u00a0 We know that cross contamination is when two different foods are aquainted with each other (Abi-Rose). As well as this, we know that it is important to store food correctly for example, meat should be near the bottom of the fridge so that the juice doesn\u2019t contaminate other foods.<\/p>\n<p>Water \u2013 We learned about the importance of H20.\u00a0 It is important to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day!\u00a0 Miss Conroy taught us a little song \u2013 \u2018The Water Song!\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Topic \u2013 Space<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have now finished our Space topic this week.\u00a0 We learned about Neil Armstrong and then we wrote a fabulous report about him.\u00a0 Some facts we learned:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He was first person to walk on the moon (Lara)<\/li>\n<li>He is American (Charlie)<\/li>\n<li>His first spacecraft was called Gemini 8 (Freya)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At home ask us some more about Neil and we will blow you away with our amazing facts!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In our Space topic we enjoyed\u2026.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Kaisey \u2013 I like learning all about Neil Armstrong<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>LaceyAnne \u2013 I liked learning about the sun<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Noah \u2013 The phases of the moon was good especially when we had the oreo challenge!<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Topic \u2013 Inventors<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of our new topics is Scottish Inventors. We learned all about Alexander Graham Bell.\u00a0 He invented the telephone. His most famous student was Helen Keller.\u00a0 Next week we will be planning and designing our very own inventions!<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Learning through Play<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This week we had the privilege of going to the playroom.\u00a0 In primary 4 we are learning through play.\u00a0 We know that we are not \u2018just playing\u2019 but that we are learning skills through the tasks and activities Mrs Doherty sets us.\u00a0 Some of the learning this week through play was:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Using Beebots:\u00a0 we learned the skills of coding, challenging and thinking and planning<\/li>\n<li>Imaginative Play:\u00a0 We practised our counting and money skills.\u00a0 We also learned how to work with others.<\/li>\n<li>Loose Parts: We used lots of loose parts to create something linked to our space top0ic.\u00a0 The skills we learned were: imagining, thinking, planning and creating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Star Writers:\u00a0 <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our amazing star writers wrote some fabulous reports on Neil Armstrong.\u00a0 Well done to Lara, Danny, Abi and Terri.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Star Pupils:\u00a0 <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Well done to our Star pupil\u2026\u00a0 Melissa for working hard in all areas of learning, being kind and caring to others.\u00a0 Fantastic!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for reading our blog!
