The curriculum includes all of the experiences which are planned for children and young people through their education, wherever they are being educated. All schools and nurseries in North Lanarkshire are working hard to raise standards so that children and young people will develop all of the skills necessary to continue to be successful when leaving school and entering the world of higher education, training or work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">Curriculum for Excellence is underpinned by the values inscribed on the mace of the Scottish Parliament \u2013 <em>wisdom, justice, compassion and integrity<\/em>.\u00a0 The purpose of Curriculum for Excellence is encapsulated in the four capacities \u2013 to enable each child or young person to be <em>a successful learner, a confident individual, a responsible citizen <\/em>and<em> an effective contributor<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/holycrossblog\/files\/2015\/05\/cfe.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-704 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/holycrossblog\/files\/2015\/05\/cfe.png\" alt=\"cfe\" width=\"425\" height=\"118\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #800000\"><a style=\"color: #800000\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/holycrossblog\/files\/2015\/05\/cfe2.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-705 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/holycrossblog\/files\/2015\/05\/cfe2.gif\" alt=\"cfe2\" width=\"674\" height=\"771\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>What are the curriculum areas in Curriculum for Excellence?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">There are eight curriculum areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">Expressive Arts\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Religious and Moral Education<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">Health &amp; Well Being\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Sciences<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">Languages (Literacy)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Social Studies<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">Mathematics (Numeracy)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Technologies<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">Importantly, literacy and numeracy are given added importance because these skills are so vital in everyday life. All teachers will have responsibility to teach literacy and numeracy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>Learning is divided into two phases<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">The <strong>Broad Education <\/strong>is from nursery to the end of Secondary School Year 3.\u00a0 Learning is divided into levels.\u00a0 These levels will replace the 5 \u2013 14 levels that you are familiar with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\">The new levels are, as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong><em>Early\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em> <\/strong>the pre-school years and Primary 1 or later for some children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong><em>First\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>to the end of Primary 4, but earlier or later for some children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong><em>Second\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>to the end of Primary 7, but earlier or later for some.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong><em>Third &amp; Fourth\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Secondary 1 to Secondary 3, but earlier for some. The fourth level broadly\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 equates to SCQF Level 4.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><em><strong>Senior Phase <\/strong><\/em>is from Secondary School Year 4 and beyond.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong><em>Senior\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Secondary 4 &#8211; Secondary 6 and college or other means of study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Curriculum for Excellence?
