How to Apply
- Applications can be completed and handed directly to the first choice setting along with the necessary supporting paperwork
- Parents/carers may wish to email the application form directly to the first-choice setting, supporting paperwork can be sent as a photo attachment for those that don’t have access to a scanning facility.
- Please ensure three choices are provided.

- Paper applications can still be accepted where parents/carers do not have access to IT.
- Parents/carers unable to provide their current council tax bill can register with the Council Tax portal and obtain a copy View and manage your council tax account online | North Lanarkshire Council
- Please ensure that a copy of the birth certificate is provided for UK Nationals and a Passport/Identity Card for non UK Nationals
Deferred Entries 2025-26
Deferred Entry paperwork and guidance for session 2025-26, is now available on the NLC website (Deferred Entry to Primary School 2025-2026 | North Lanarkshire Council).
Copies of the forms and the deferred entry timeline have also been attached for your information.
Submissions for those children automatically deferring and those requesting to defer, should be made by close of business on Friday, 14 February 2025.
For clarity, the following paperwork is required for children intending to defer entry to primary school:
Children who turn 5 between 1st March – 13th August: Deferred Entry March – Mid August Form (completed by nursery) and DE1 form which is signed by Head Teacher of catchment primary school.
Children who turn 5 between 14th August – 28th February: DE1 form which is signed by Head Teacher of catchment primary school.
