{"id":785,"date":"2015-05-14T16:57:50","date_gmt":"2015-05-14T15:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/glenmanornews\/?page_id=785"},"modified":"2022-01-20T15:15:51","modified_gmt":"2022-01-20T14:15:51","slug":"assessing-and-reporting","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/glenmanornews\/assessing-and-reporting\/","title":{"rendered":"Assessing and Reporting"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #ffcc00\"><strong>Assessment and Reporting<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Assessment is an important part of the Curriculum for Excellence and, at all levels, pupils\u2019 progress is closely monitored by teachers and staff.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers and staff work with pupils to reflect on their results, looking at their strengths and learning needs, agreeing on next steps and actions based on these.<\/p>\n<p>As they progress, pupils become more involved in this process, as they develop the skills to make effective judgments on their own learning, developing personal expertise that will be important to them throughout life.<\/p>\n<p>Assessment also helps teachers plan learning experiences which are motivating and challenging. Children who may have additional support needs will be assessed using methods best suited to their individual requirements.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #ffcc00\"><strong>How will my child\u2019s learning be assessed?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>There will be several ways of assessing each child\u2019s progress to make sure that potential is achieved.<\/p>\n<p>In playrooms and classrooms, staff will be using improved ways of assessing children\u2019s learning taking account of national and local advice and guidance.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pupils are continuously assessed in an informal way as part of the daily class routine<\/li>\n<li>Assessment is carried out by staff in a variety of ways, in order to ascertain progress, and identify barriers to learning<\/li>\n<li>Staff assess formatively and encourage pupils to do the same for their own work and their peers<\/li>\n<li>Standardised assessments may be used to help teachers assess pupil progress and to identify any strengths or barriers to learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #ffcc00\"><strong>Assessment Results<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Pupil attainment in Literacy and Numeracy is tracked each session<\/li>\n<li>Results are discussed with staff and pupils are challenged\/ supported appropriately<\/li>\n<li>Results are tracked year on year to ensure that pupils are making progress<\/li>\n<li>Pupils are also tracked using the Staged Intervention process to ensure that they are being appropriately supported through primary school<\/li>\n<li>More information on Staged Intervention can be found in the Additional Support Needs section.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today we don\u2019t compare children against each other but rather treat each as an individual who is always gaining new achievements and attainments for themselves. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Their own personal best is what we are aiming for.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #ffcc00\"><strong>Why do we Assess?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>We assess to find out:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strengths<\/li>\n<li>Areas of challenge<\/li>\n<li>If our teaching is effective<\/li>\n<li>To give out accurate information to all about progress<\/li>\n<li>To track progress to make sure each pupil is progressing at the right pace.<\/li>\n<li>To ensure excellence through equity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;text-decoration: underline\">How will I be informed about my child\u2019s progress?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Your child\u2019s progress will be reported to you so that you know how well your child is doing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Parents are invited to school three times per year to discuss their child\u2019s progress<\/li>\n<li>Parents are welcome to consult with the class teacher at other times if there is an issue that concerns them or they wish more information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(A telephone call or letter to arrange a mutually convenient time is appreciated)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A full written report is issued in May and this report highlights each child\u2019s strengths, development needs, and the next steps in their learning<\/li>\n<li>We also hold 2 open events each session when parents can visit the classroom and see their child at work.<\/li>\n<li>Each year we will let you know what is being done to implement Curriculum for Excellence so that you can be confident that your child is receiving a high-quality education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Assessment and Reporting Assessment is an important part of the Curriculum for Excellence and, at all levels, pupils\u2019 progress is closely monitored by teachers and staff.
