Enrolment

Annual primary one registration will follow the guidelines of the Local Authority and information will be given in the local press and displayed in windows of village shops.  Registration at other times can be arranged by contacting the school on (01236) 632154.  We implement North Lanarkshire’s Transition Policy to support pupils and their families and we have an effective transition programme.

Transfer from Primary School to Secondary School

Pupils normally transfer between the ages of 11½ and 12½ so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least 4 years of secondary education.  Parents will be informed of the arrangements no later than December of the year preceding the date of transfer at the start of the new session.

Children in this school normally transfer to Caldervale High School, Towers Road, Airdrie ML6 8PG Tel:  01236 794855. A transition programme is established between Caldervale High School and the associated primary schools.

Primary One Pre Entry Programme

Children who have registered to attend Glengowan are invited to engage in ‘Transition Tuesdays’ and to school for a transition visit with their teacher, and for a transition lunch.  Parents are emailed/posted information about the start of their child’s education. They are encouraged to contact the school to ask questions and discuss any concerns they may have.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

The school aims to afford equality of educational opportunity to all young people. At Glengowan Primary, we implement the Council’s Equality and Diversity Policy and Equality Strategy 2019-2024 and the Service’s Promoting Equality and Diversity General Circular 155-10. We are committed to eliminating unlawful discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity for and between different groups of people in line with the Equality Act 2010. The school is committed to ensuring its policies and practices do not impact adversely on any particular group(s) of people and opportunities to promote equality are actively pursued. The Equality and Human Rights Commission’s Technical Guidance for Schools in Scotland details the essential requirements of the Equality Act 2010 for schools.
