We are working towards Silver Charter status with LGBT Youth Scotland and have included an LGBTQ+ committee within the school pupil parliament to ensure a difference is being made for LGBTQ+ individuals.<\/p>\n<p>The school website has more information\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ghshome\/lgbtq\/\">LGBTQ+ | Greenfaulds High School (glowscotland.org.uk)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>DIGITAL SCHOOLS AWARD <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following our recent Digital Schools Award Scotland validation visit, we are delighted to inform our school community that we have been successful in our bid to become a Digital School in Scotland.\u00a0 Furthermore, we have actually been invited to be a mentor school.\u00a0 We feel that this is testament to all the hard work and perseverance of our pupils, staff and parents in implementing our Digital agenda.\u00a0 General Recommendations from the Report are noted below:<\/p>\n<p>Greenfaulds High school is a thriving digital environment, with staff and leaders constantly seeking new ways to enhance learning and teaching. Digital technologies play a key part in their drive for school improvement.\u00a0\u00a0Teachers and leaders have embraced all CLPL opportunities to ensure that skills and knowledge are current and effective.\u00a0\u00a0These included personnel completing courses to support CRIS which they will cascade to colleagues to further enrich skill sets and empower learners.\u00a0\u00a0Learners themselves will also support CLPL delivery, particularly regarding assistive technologies, during future INSET days.<\/p>\n<p>Learners felt confident in digital skills and empowered to achieve individual and collective success.\u00a0\u00a0Indeed, a key strength of the school is how greatly it values the contribution of learners in shaping school improvement. One example lay in the student led creation of the AUP, bringing a bespoke touch to the document. Similarly, the school has a learner driven podcast featuring topical items such as social justice and Cop26 &#8211; manifesting the espoused school values.<\/p>\n<p>Digital technologies are prevalent across the school and some of the most powerful narratives about their application came from learners with additional support needs, explaining how access to assistive tools transformed their engagement with the curriculum.\u00a0\u00a0Especially heartening was the discovery that such tools were being utilised in more than one subject.\u00a0\u00a0Effective transfer of skills ensured that the learner experience was enhanced across the school day and not limited to a certain period. Moreover, the learner articulated how current skill might be useful beyond school.\u00a0\u00a0In Greenfaulds HS, preparation for the world of work certainly included a rich, digital dimension.<\/p>\n<p>Learners however were not alone in their appreciation of digital tools, staff spoke enthusiastically about the motivational benefits, the capacity for consolidation of key facts, the ease and diversity of formative assessment and the efficient nature of communication. Multiple examples of such were provided.<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion, it was clear that the school community of Greenfaulds HS were working together successfully to continue their positive journey in digital development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PE DEPARTMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Scottish School Athletics &#8211; First Weekend Results.<\/p>\n<p>Huge congratulations to the following Athletes who won medals on the first weekend of the championships.\u00a0 4 Medals at this stage is an incredible achievement, and testament to the hard work and dedication of the pupils, parents and the athletics coaches at Cumbernauld Athletics Club and beyond who work so hard with our athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Amy Kennedy S6 &#8211; Gold Medal in Pentathlon<\/p>\n<p>Angus Gay S1 &#8211; Gold Medal in the Hammer Throw<\/p>\n<p>Euan Wallace S5 &#8211; Silver Medal in the Pentathlon<\/p>\n<p>Sophie Robertson S1 &#8211;\u00a0Silver Medal in the Hammer Throw<\/p>\n<p>In total, 14 athletes are competing in this National Level Schools&#8217; event, with a good number more nearly at a level to do so.\u00a0 This reflects the increasingly talented pool of athletes that are being developed, and the continued growth of the sport locally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>S2 FOOTBALL FINALISTS\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The S2 boys football team made the Scottish Plate Final on Tuesday night, after beating St Maurice&#8217;s on penalties. A huge congratulations to all the squad!<\/p>\n<p>The final is on Monday the 13th June at Bayview Stadium in Fife. You are encouraged to participate in the UK Read for Refugees Sunflower Challenge.<\/p>\n<p>After ten million Ukrainians have had to leave their homes, we are asking students to take part in a sponsored read to raise money for the United Nations Refugee Agency which provides emergency assistance for refugees worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Students could ask for donations from friends and family per page, chapter, or book read; by hours spent reading; or simply for a flat donation to support their involvement.<\/p>\n<p>All donations, no matter what the amount, will support the work of the Refugee Agency. All sponsors can donate directly on the project\u2019s Just Giving page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/fundraising\/sunflower-challenge\">https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/fundraising\/sunflower-challenge<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you would like to take part and be involved in raising funds for refugees worldwide and also be in with a chance to win some great prizes, both nationally and in school, please collect a sponsor sheet from the librarian. For more information and to enter the national<\/p>\n<p>competitions go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sla.org.uk\/read-for-refugees\">https:\/\/www.sla.org.uk\/read-for-refugees<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEM<\/strong><strong> TRIP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Miss Oyler took a team of S2 pupils to a Royal Academy of Engineers STEM competition at All Saints High School in Glasgow. They completed against other schools in various Mars themed challenges including designing and building a transmitter tower, and making a prototype space rock collector, as well as learning about engineering careers. They brought home two trophies for the best space rock collector and for the best budgeting!
