They are travelling with Operation Wallacea and will help research scientists with on-going conservation projects.<\/p>\n<p>These projects are situated in the remote Buton Rainforest on Sulewesi. After this the group will move to the island of Hoga in the Coral Sea, where they will help with data gathering at a variety of Marine Conservation sites. The data gathered will be used to inform conservation agencies and the local government on the best options for reducing environmental damage in a very vulnerable area.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>GREENFAULDS HIGH SCHOOL SHOW 2019<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>SCHOOLS WILL ROCK YOU!<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Greenfaulds HS is incredibly excited to be performing our show, \u2018Schools Will Rock You\u2019 on the 19th, 20th and\u00a021<sup>st\u00a0<\/sup>of June. Our pupils have been rehearsing diligently every week to ensure the show will be one of a kind.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Taking place in the distant future, Earth has become a world where everyone thinks the same thoughts and wears the same clothes. Worst of all \u2013 musical instruments and composers are forbidden and rock music has almost been forgotten! Thankfully, a small group of bohemians are attempting to restore freedom of thought, fashion and live music. Along their journey, they have to be careful\u00a0not to fall in to the hands of the all-knowing Killer Queen (she&#8217;s dynamite with a laser beam!)&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The show will cover\u00a0Queen\u2019s greatest hits so you know you\u2019re\u00a0gonna have yourself<em>\u00a0&#8216;a real\u00a0good time!\u2019<\/em>. \u00a0Tickets are \u00a35 and can be purchased from any member of the Music Dept. If you want to reserve tickets then please email:\u00a0kduncan@greenfaulds.n-lanark.sch.uk.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>SUPPORT FOR LEARNING<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Greenfaulds High School&#8217;s Support for Learning Department took advantage of an offer of free tickets to the Scotland v&#8217;s Jamaica football game, and 4 pupils came along to support Scotland (as well as some staff and their families). We integrated this with the opportunity to develop Independent Living Skills, where the pupils travelled by public transport to and from the game from Cumbernauld. It was a great game.<\/p>\n<p>The S3 Achieve class are working towards their John Muir Award, and Accredited certificate to develop skills Outdoors. As a part of this, the pupils have been doing conservation work at Ravenswood Nature Reserve, Exploring new places, and recently we climbed a hill in the Trossachs- Ben A&#8217;an.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ghshome\/files\/2019\/06\/ben-aan-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2696\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ghshome\/files\/2019\/06\/ben-aan-2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ghshome\/files\/2019\/06\/ben-aan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2697\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ghshome\/files\/2019\/06\/ben-aan-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ghshome\/files\/2019\/06\/football.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2698\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ghshome\/files\/2019\/06\/football-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>CORNERSTONE COMMUNITY CONCERT<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday 29<sup>th<\/sup> May, we held our inaugural Community Concert in Cornerstone Church in the heart of the town centre.\u00a0 An enthusiastic audience, ranging roughly from age 2 to age 92 were treated to a showcase of the very best of what Greenfaulds Music Department has to offer and our pupils did not disappoint!<\/p>\n<p>Mr Rodgers kick-started the event with a fabulous display of piping, before the Trad Band took to the stage with the swashbuckling \u2018Pirates of the Caribbean\u2019 and a selection of jigs. Next followed a lovely Clarsach solo from Caitlyn Yule, then the Trad band gave their final set, finishing with a singalong version of \u2018A Million Dreams.\u2019 This was a particular favourite of our audience members from Glencryan School.<\/p>\n<p>Next, some of the lead characters from this year\u2019s school show \u2018Schools Will Rock You\u2019 delighted everyone with their renditions of the Queen songs \u2018No-One But You\u2019 and \u2018Headlong\u2019. Lots of the audience were clearly impressed, as they immediately enquired about where they could purchase show tickets\u2013from the music department, shows from 19<sup>th<\/sup> to 21<sup>st<\/sup> June, tickets only \u00a35!!<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of the showcase was the 2nd performance ever of our new Samba group, comprised of a selection of enthusiastic S1 pupils, who gave an impressive (and noisy) performance, joined by a few willing volunteers from our community. This ended with spontaneous cheering \u2013 clearly a hit!<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the concert we also featured a number of soloists \u2013 namely from Caitlyn Andrew, Ava MacKinnon and Amy McPhee, 3 of our beautiful vocalists.<\/p>\n<p>The School Wind Band gave the final set of the concert with an inspiring piece titled \u2018Into the Clouds\u2019, then a Dixieland version of the Disney classic \u2018The Bare Necessities\u2019. Next, the ever-popular medley of \u2018Queen\u2019 songs and another Greatest Showman classic \u2018This Is Me\u2019 \u2013 audience members joined in heartily in this final segment with singing, clapping and stomping along to \u2018We Will Rock You\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Well done to all the performers, staff, tutors and a big THANK YOU to the ever-helpful staff of Cornerstone and, of course, the appreciative audience \u2013 dancing, clapping, singing and certainly lots of smiling.
