Whilst we have offered in school support to pupils, I also appreciate that whilst a number of pupils may not have been a close friend to Carter, hearing of loss can also bring up memories of our loss within our own lives.\u00a0 As such I wanted to share the following online supports which I hope you might find helpful if your child does find this new upsetting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruse.org.uk\/understanding-grief\/grief-experiences\/children-young-people\/helping-teenagers-cope-grief\/\">Helping teenagers cope with death &#8211; Cruse Bereavement Support<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngminds.org.uk\/young-person\/my-feelings\/grief-and-loss\/\">Dealing with grief and loss | Mental health advice | Young Minds<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you are concerned about your young person, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New School Captains<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Monday of this week, I along with Mr Urquhart, and two pupils from S1 and S3 respectively had the incredibly daunting task of interviewing our 10 prospective School Captains.\u00a0 In a highly unusual situation, all 10 of the candidates were taken to interview as they had all done well in either the pupil and\/or the staff vote which had taken place last Friday.\u00a0 Normally the votes create a short leet, but such were the strengths of the campaign, that all 10 pupils were invited to interview.\u00a0 All of them spoke with genuine passion about the school and the ways in which they wanted to help improve it for everyone.\u00a0 I was always certain that any of the candidates would do a fantastic job and this was confirmed throughout the discussions that we had on Monday.\u00a0 The votes of the panel were then added to the pupil, and staff votes and I am delighted to announce that the School Captains for Session 2020\/27 are Ava Gaffney and Catherine Mattes.\u00a0 I know you will join me in wishing them congratulations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PE Changing Rooms<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I wrote to all families in S2 on Wednesday afternoon requesting their support in relation to PE Changing Rooms, but I recognise that it would be helpful to make all families aware of my request for support.<\/p>\n<p>As you may be aware, we have had three activations of our fire alarm since we returned in August.\u00a0 Each activation has not been planned and I&#8217;m pleased to report that the alarm was not set off deliberately.\u00a0 Nonetheless, we have had to institute a full evacuation of the building each time which, as you will appreciate, is a significant interruption to the life of the school as well as troubling for a number of pupils and staff who are vulnerable in a range of ways.<\/p>\n<p>Having spoken with the janitorial team and the building maintenance team, they have identified that each of the triggered alarms have been caused in the PE changing rooms, at the end of classes when pupils are changing back into their uniform.\u00a0 As part of them getting ready for class there appears to be a large amount of body spray being used.\u00a0 As such, it appears that whilst not deliberate, the amount of body spray is causing the alarm to be triggered.\u00a0 I have asked about the possibility of adjusting the sensor, but this is not possible.<\/p>\n<p>I was hoping that you might be able to support us by ensuring that your child is provided with a roll-on deodorant rather than a spray?\u00a0 I appreciate that this is not always possible but if you are able to support the school in this way it would be hugely appreciated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BMX Success<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You may remember from last week\u2019s blog that we had a number of our pupils competing in the School Games National Family this past weekend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/ghshome\/uploads\/sites\/26302\/2026\/09\/11124642\/Picture1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"5672\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ghshome\/sample-page\/picture1-10\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/ghshome\/uploads\/sites\/26302\/2026\/09\/11124642\/Picture1.png\" data-orig-size=\"247,251\" data-comments-opened=\"0\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"Picture1\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-medium-file=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/ghshome\/uploads\/sites\/26302\/2026\/09\/11124642\/Picture1.png\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/ghshome\/uploads\/sites\/26302\/2026\/09\/11124642\/Picture1.png\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5672 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/ghshome\/uploads\/sites\/26302\/2026\/09\/11124642\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a>The School Games National Finals is one of the UK&#8217;s most prestigious youth multi-sport events, bringing together talented school-age athletes from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, hosted at Loughborough University. The Finals are supported by Sport England, UK Sport, the Home Country Sports Councils and the Youth Sport Trust, and are recognised by British Cycling as an important part of the talent development pathway for aspiring athletes.<\/p>\n<p>The School Games provided an incredible opportunity for all to ride alongside top UK BMX athletes, hone their skills, and contribute to an outstanding team. Fergus was thrilled to help secure 3rd place in the flat sprint team time trial, marking the first-ever team medal won by BMX Team Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Brodie captured an individual silver medal in the boys flat sprint, finished 4th in flat skills, and placed 5th in the boys race\u2014ultimately earning 3rd place in the overall boys competition!<\/p>\n<p>These results represent the best results Team Scotland has ever achieved at the School Games National finals, and we couldn&#8217;t be prouder of their remarkable achievements!<\/p>\n<p><strong>St Andrew\u2019s Hospice 6km Fun Run<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On 20th September, our amazing Greenfaulds senior pupils will be taking on a 6km fundraising challenge at Strathclyde Park in support of St Andrew\u2019s Hospice. We are incredibly proud of our pupils for taking on this challenge and helping to raise money for such a wonderful cause. If you are able to support us, any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated and will make a real difference. \ud83d\udc9a<\/p>\n<p>Thank you so much for your support!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/page\/greenfauldshs?utm_medium=FA&amp;utm_source=CL\">https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/page\/greenfauldshs?utm_medium=FA&amp;utm_source=CL<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>SQA Appeals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Appeals results will be out on 1st October.\u00a0 Pupils should ask their teacher if they have been successful or not.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifications Scotland have also asked us that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>because this is a robust process that included a marking review of their Qualifications Scotland-marked assessments, the outcome is final and there is no further option to appeal.<\/li>\n<li>in line with the marking process for August results, we can\u2019t provide individual feedback on appeals outcomes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>S1 Settling In Evening<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are looking forward to welcoming all S1 families on Thursday 17<sup>th<\/sup> Sept from 6.00 &#8211; Any students who got EMA last years has to reapply this year. (The web page has not been updated and says application are currently closed, please ignore this or to go straight to the form click on second link below). Once they the students have their form posted to them, they should bring it to Mr Adler and he will sit down with the students and go through the expectations to get their EMA, about perfect attendance and behaviour. Attendance below 95% will potentially loose EMA. Students are only allowed 5 days absence in 1 academic year and 5 late comings after that if they are absent they will not get paid that week.<\/p>\n<p><a \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nuts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In response to a growing number of pupils and staff who have a severe allergy to nuts, we would like to work towards reducing the prevalence of nuts within our school as much as possible.\u00a0 This is to protect both pupils and staff.<\/p>\n<p>We would ask that you are vigilant about packed lunches, sweets etc and ensure that no nuts come on to the school grounds.
