Head Teacher Blog<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

\"\"<\/a>Dear Parent\/Carer<\/p>\n

I hope you have had a good week.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, I saw a post on social media entitled \u2018tell them\u2019 which encouraged you to tell your friends, colleagues and general members of the public of the good things you see and experience on a daily basis.\u00a0 This has struck a real chord with me, and I have endeavoured this week to tell pupils, colleagues and partners when I notice things that I am appreciative of.\u00a0 The reactions are often bashful acceptance, but I would encourage you this week to tell the people near you of the little things you appreciate about them.\u00a0 It has certainly made my week a much better place.\u00a0 My favourite was a parent who contacted me this week to say how helpful two teachers had been on the back of the S4 reports last week.\u00a0 It meant a huge amount to the staff to hear this.<\/p>\n

As always, if you have any questions in relation to the information contained within this blog or any other school matter, please do not hesitate to be in touch with the school.\u00a0 Moreover, I\u2019m always delighted to share good news of pupil achievements outside of school as a large number of pupils are participating at an exceptionally high level in a range of activities.\u00a0 If your son\/daughter is involved in something, please do share this with me.<\/p>\n

Attendance<\/strong><\/p>\n

I contacted all families by email yesterday with an update to our attendance procedures which will be rolled out after the October Break.\u00a0 Our rationale is to ensure that families are fully aware of their child\u2019s attendance on a period-by-period basis both in ensuring that no learning is lost and more importantly from a safeguarding position to ensure that we are all aware when a child is missing.\u00a0 As I indicated in the letter, the intention is to roll out this system to pupils in S1 and S2 initially and then to scale it up to all year groups.\u00a0 At the end of the first phase, we will look for any feedback.\u00a0 If you are one of the small number of families still not signed up for Parent Portal the link is here<\/a>.\u00a0 However, if you continue to have challenges, please don\u2019t hesitate to contact our admin team who will be more than happy to help get you logged in.<\/p>\n

Scottish Government Visit<\/strong><\/p>\n

We were delighted this week to host Mr David Leng from the Scottish Government.\u00a0 Mr Leng joined us on Thursday morning to learn more about our Gaelic Learners and the work of the Gaelic Department.\u00a0 It was lovely to be able to show off many of our amazing young people and share the journey that we are continuing on to promote and stress the importance of Gaelic, not only to our learners but to our school community as a whole.<\/p>\n

S5\/6 Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n

Families of pupils in S5\/6 should have been able to access their child\u2019s first tracking report today (Friday).\u00a0 This report is an early indicator as to their progress this year and contains their target grade that they have discussed with their class teacher as an aspiration for the end of the year.\u00a0 We hope that you find this information helpful.<\/p>\n

Appeals<\/strong><\/p>\n

We have just received our Appeal results. As always, and in line with all other schools, the success rate is very low \u2013 only 6.9%.\u00a0 We will contact those pupils who have been successful – in person if they are still at school, or by phone if they have left.\u00a0 If pupils do not hear from us, I\u2019m afraid it\u2019s because the Appeal was unsuccessful and there is no change to their result. It is not feasible for us to contact every pupil individually due to the numbers involved.<\/p>\n

MTA Timetables and Study Planners<\/strong><\/p>\n

The timetables and Study Planners were issued to S4 during assemblies on Thursday. Pupils were also taken through Qualifications Scotland guidance on National Qualifications, Courseworks and Assignments, the use of AI, avoiding Malpractice by ensuring all work is entirely their own etc. The link to this guidance is below.<\/p>\n

Lift and toilet passes<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the Pupil Support Meeting that I attended this week, the issue of lift and toilet passes was discussed.\u00a0 As a school you will be aware that we always try to meet pupils’ needs with the resources that we have.\u00a0 In relation to specific passes for toilets and lifts I would like to take the opportunity to stress that we do need to have a medical note to issue either one of these passes as the staff themselves are not able to make decisions about who needs or does not need a pass.\u00a0 I appreciate your understanding on this.<\/p>\n

Date for your diaries<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of our S4 Leadership Pupils has gone above and beyond in their leadership project this year.\u00a0 Xaria Young has undertaken and is currently finalising a Spooktacular Halloween Craft Fayre.\u00a0 This is scheduled from 4pm \u2013 7pm on Friday the 30th<\/sup> of October.\u00a0 The event looks amazing and offers everyone the chance to buy some last minute Halloween goodies.\u00a0 Full details are on this poster:<\/p>\n

Trips<\/strong><\/p>\n

I spoke recently to all P7 and S1 families about the importance of communication and urged them all to let us know of areas which we can improve upon in terms of communication.\u00a0 I was contacted by a family member regarding trips who asked for a list of the residential trips coming up in the next few years to allow families to possibly plan and consider which ones to allow their child to apply for.\u00a0 This was an excellent idea, but one we had never considered.\u00a0 As such I hope you find the table below helpful.<\/p>\n

Gaelic Pupils continue to thrive<\/strong><\/p>\n

We were delighted to see that two of our former pupils have continued to learn in Gaelic when Sabhal Mor Ostaig (The Gaelic College on Skye) posted a picture of their new BA Gaelic and Education Students this week.\u00a0 Notable on the post were two of our ex-pupils, Scott McDade and Aaron Weir. It was so amazing to see that from the national cohort Greenfaulds are contributing over 10% of these students!<\/p>\n

Clubs<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a school we try to offer a range of activities for pupils to engage with either through the week or on Friday after lunchtime.\u00a0 Ms Jeffrey has provided all pupils in S1 with the opportunity to find out more about the clubs today (Friday) but I wanted to share the list with families.<\/p>\n

Support for pupils with ASN<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a parent with a child who has an additional support need, I know that information can be particularly helpful to ensure you are supporting your young person in the best possible way.\u00a0 The Support for Learning department work closely with Speech and Language therapy, Occupational Therapy, Hope for Autism and the Neurodevelopmental Team. If your child is on a waiting list to see any of the services, or have been given an identification of an Additional Support need, the following Facebook pages may be useful to you. They share hints and tips, have rolling programmes of local workshops for parents and children on common themes such as Sleep, Anxiety, language processing, sensory difficulties.<\/p>\n

Young Scot Cards<\/strong><\/p>\n

Increasingly, the use of Young Scot Cards for our pupils are very important, both in and out of school.\u00a0 As such, if your son\/daughter loses their card it can be problematic.\u00a0 We are able to apply for a replacement card on their behalf.\u00a0 However, we would ask that if you would like the school to do this, that parents\/carers need to email Mr Adler nladlerp@northlan.org.uk<\/a> with the students full name, date of birth, a photo, their address to send the card to and give permission to apply for a card.<\/p>\n

Educational Maintenance Allowance<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new EMA form is now live on the NLC website for the new session 2026\/2027 starting in August. Any students who got EMA last years has to reapply this year. (The web page has not been updated and says application are currently closed, please ignore this or to go straight to the form click on second link below). Once they the students have their form posted to them, they should bring it to Mr Adler and he will sit down with the students and go through the expectations to get their EMA, about perfect attendance and behaviour. Attendance below 95% will potentially loose EMA. Students are only allowed 5 days absence in 1 academic year and 5 late comings after that if they are absent they will not get paid that week.<\/p>\n

Nuts<\/strong><\/p>\n

In response to a growing number of pupils and staff who have a severe allergy to nuts, we would like to work towards reducing the prevalence of nuts within our school as much as possible.\u00a0 This is to protect both pupils and staff.<\/p>\n

We would ask that you are vigilant about packed lunches, sweets etc and ensure that no nuts come on to the school grounds. Please do not send your child into school with any nut-based product for a snack or packed lunch \u2013 this includes:<\/p>\n
