{"id":134,"date":"2015-05-13T09:04:13","date_gmt":"2015-05-13T09:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/olhscumbernauld\/?page_id=134"},"modified":"2023-09-27T16:51:13","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T16:51:13","slug":"parent-council","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/ghshome\/parent-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Parent Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>Introduction<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana\">In 2007\/8 the Scottish Executive decided that the old system of School Boards and Parent Teacher Associations needed to be changed, in order to help parents become more involved in their children\u2019s education and improve relationships with their local school.They recommended that a new group called the Parent Council be set up in each school made up of parents, the head teacher, teaching staff and a representative of the archdiocese who would represent and report to all parents, referred to as the Parent Forum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/ghshome\/uploads\/sites\/26302\/2017\/11\/Constitution-after-AGM-Oct-2015.docx\">Click here to access Greenfaulds High School Parent Council Constitution.<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">The Parent Forum<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">As a parent of a child at this school you are automatically a member of the Parent Forum. \u00a0The Parent Forum is composed of all the parents and carers of children at the school.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">As a member of the Parent Forum you can expect to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>get information about what your child is learning<\/li>\n<li>get information about events and activities at the school<\/li>\n<li>get advice\/help on how you can support your child\u2019s learning<\/li>\n<li>be told about opportunities to be involved in the school<\/li>\n<li>have a say in selecting a Parent Council to work on behalf of all parents at the school<\/li>\n<li>be invited to identify issues for the Parent Council to work on with the school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div align=\"left\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">The Parent Council<\/span><\/div>\n<div align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">The Parent Council\u2019s rights and duties include:<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">a)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0supporting the work of the school;<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">b)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0representing the views of parents;<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">c)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0consulting with parents and reporting back to the Parent Forum on matters of interest;<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">d)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0promoting contact between the school, parents, pupils, and the wider community;<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">e)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0fundraising;<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">f)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0taking part in the selection of senior promoted staff;<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">g)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0receiving reports from the Headteacher and education authority; and<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">h)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0receiving an annual budget for administration, training and other expenses.<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">Members of Parent Councils, on a voluntary basis, may also have an advisory role in decisions on placing requests by parents in respect of those situations where the number of placing requests for a particular school or for a particular stage in a particular school exceeds the number of places available.<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Greenfaulds High School Parent Council Office Bearers<\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">Chairperson &#8211;\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 TBA<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">Vice Chair\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0TBA<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">Secretary\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0TBA<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">Treasurer\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0TBA<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">The clerk to the School Parent Council is TBA.<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">The head teacher is the principal adviser to the Parent Council.<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">Local councillors have a right to attend Parent Council meetings and have the right to speak but they may not vote since they are not members of the Parent Council.<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">Members of the Parent Council can be contacted through the school if required.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction In 2007\/8 the Scottish Executive decided that the old system of School Boards and Parent Teacher Associations needed to be changed, in order to help parents become more involved in their children\u2019s education and improve relationships with their local school.They recommended that a new group called the Parent Council be set up in each &hellip;
