Natural Disaster’s Technology Homework

Primary 6 have been enjoying learning about the layers within our Planet Earth and their movement, to cause such disasters like Earthquakes and Volcanic eruptions. during our class theme on Natural Disasters. We even arrived at school one morning to discover that our classroom had been involved in a surprise ‘Mini Disaster!’

We have used our knowledge and learning in class to construct our own 3D Volcanic Models as part of our technology homework linked to Natural Disasters. I think you will agree that the finished  models are all absolutely First Class!

Mindfulness Vision Boards

As part of our weekly class homework pupils were asked to consider who is important within their lives, what is important to them,  and think about creating positive goals for their future. The mindfulness vision boards express pupils’ true dreams and aspirations and create a clear visual for them to be inspired and pursue those dreams!

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.

Live the life you have imagined.”

BrassTastic Musicians

We are the  Brasstastics and we have been playing brass since October . We play trumpets and trombones with our music tutor,

Mr  McQueen from Chryston High School every Thursday morning. For our Christmas performance we worked extra hard to get our songs ready to show our parents. We were excited to perform Mary had a little lamb , Twinkle Twinkle , Jolly Old Saint Nicholas and Jingle Bells. Watch this space for some more of our brasstastic tunes as the year progresses.

P6 Festive Fun

Primary 6 had a wonderful time at our party today! We loved the traditional mix of social dancing, Mrs Chalmers thinks we might even been good enough for Strictly Come Dancing!  We played musical statues, pass the parcel and four corners. Thanks to all our support staff for setting up our snacks and juice, we had the most amazing time!

Belfast, Titanic Museum

As part of our class IDL theme, we have been learning about the events surrounding the sinking of the Titanic, why the unsinkable ship sank and those passengers and crew members who were affected on that fateful night.

During one of our class discussions, we suggested to Mrs Chalmers that it would be an amazing opportunity to visit the Titanic Museum in Belfast to see first hand artefacts from this historical event. Never did we think that our wish would come true!

As you can see from the photograph below, we are all very excited to be travelling to Belfast, even though it is still very early in the morning!

On arrival at Cairnryan we were amazed at the sheer size of the ferry and couldn’t believe that we had our very own cinema and selection of interactive games….. we felt as though we were on board the Titanic travelling in  First Class.

To stay focused and calm during the journey we asked Mr McCann to lead a mindfulness meditation.

Inside the museum we were able to follow the timeline of events from construction of the Titanic, view the interactive grand staircase, take a journey through time with the workers at Harland and Wolff, learn about the different cabins for passengers in different classes and watch from above as the Titanic is slowly excavated from the depths of the deep ocean floor.

WOW! As you can see from the photographs above, the museum provided us with so many great learning opportunities. We were all sad to be travelling back home! We did however have a scrumptious meal on board the ferry travelling back home.

We would like to thank Mrs Stewart for all her hard work behind the scenes organising our outing and to Mrs McFarlane and Mrs Chalmers for providing us with so many memorable memories. It was the best school trip by far!

SUMDOG DAILY WINNER

We have been working with the computer application ‘Sumdog’ to reinforce and improve our mathematical knowledge and skills in Primary 6. This game based learning improves our mental calculations and motivates us to learn in a fun and stimulating way, targeted to each numeracy level that we are working on in the classroom. This week our class were delighted to be awarded a certificate for achieving the highest combined score within the North Lanarkshire’s Sumdog Competition.

Coding Club

Primary 6 have been fortunate enough to be working with Mr Duncan to develop our coding skills during weekly ICT lessons. This week we worked in pairs to program our very own talking robot!

First we had to decide on our robots personality and then add a suitable backdrop to suit our chatbot robots  personality. Next we added a code to allow our chatbot robot to reply to our questions. We added several variables to program the chatbot to speak and answer depending on our responses. We had amazing fun when creating our interactive chatbot. Thank you Mr Duncan!

NLC Outdoor Learning Competition

Primary 6 have been busy designing a logo for the North Lanarkshire’s Outdoor Learning Competition. Schools were invited to design a logo or banner containing the letters OL to promote outdoor learning within the curriculum. Our class chose to design their own powerful patterns using stones from the sensory garden. I think you will agree that the final outcome for our entry is fantastic! Well done Primary 6!

Powerful Titanic Powerpoints

We have been learning how to create a powerpoint slideshow during our ICT lessons. Using our knowledge and understanding of the Titanic, we are producing a chronological report of the sequence of events which led to this historical tragedy in 1912. We can incorporate the main ideas, facts and illustrations, transferring our taught knowledge from our IDL work in class to use within our powerpoints.
