Natural Disaster’s Learning Wall

We would proudly like to share our class learning wall for our Natural Disaster’s IDL topic. As you can see we have been extremely busy writing Newspaper Reports related to recent volcanic eruptions in the world, creating Volcano Factfile brochures, painting different types of volcanoes using a variety of tones of colour to represent the molten lava and currently we are collaboratively working on a Natural Disaster’s  presentation and also scripting a Television Report linked to our class topic.

Countdown Challenge

Mrs Chalmers likes to test our mental agility in numeracy with a morning Countdown Challenge! A random set of numbers are selected with a final target number to achieve……. and then the countdown clock begins! We use each number once with a variety of numeracy operations to try and achieve the target number and beat the clock. Here are today’s Countdown Champions.

Gaelic Adventures

Primary 6 went on a magical journey with the award winning Gaelic performance artist, Ariel Killick. The lesson engaged pupils in drama, mime and role-play through the form of Gaelic storytelling. As you can see from the photographs below, we had a fun filled learning experience!

John Byrne National Drawing Competition

We have been learning about the Paisley artist John Byrne and developing our creative drawing skills. Our entries will be sent to the John Byrne Competition to be judged by the renowned artist and playwright himself. We looked at objects which were special to us and drew detailed observational sketches, using a combination of shading and line drawing techniques. Keep your fingers crossed for our budding young artists!

Phenomenal Scientists

We had an amazing afternoon investigating the explosive reactions between the variables, Coca Cola, Mentos, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar, to replicate a volcanic eruption!

We changed the variables throughout our experiment to explore if  the results would change and found that the carbon dioxide in the Cola reacts with the pitted surfaces on the Mentos and causes a reaction called nucleation.

Our volcano projects looked like a real life volcano erupting!

Aspiring Gymnasts

This week in gymnastics we have enjoyed learning to use the springboard to jump onto the horse and show controlled movement when landing. We apologise for the clarity of some of the images due to the speed of our movement when travelling over the horse!!
