Rhiannon and Vhari asked if they could begin a mindfulness relaxation club for infant pupils. Here they are working with the Primary 1 pupils to deliver a  lunchtime mindfulness class. Well done girls! A great initiative and some fantastic ideas to lead with the younger pupils. Super proud of you both!
We have been learning about coordinates in numeracy and the voyage of the Titanic, on it’s fateful journey. During Outdoor Classroom Day we took our learning outside and plotted the coordinates of Harland and Wolff, Southhampton, Cherbourg, Atlantic Ocean and New York on a coordinate grid. It was great fun and really interesting to bring coordinates to life and see how we would use in everyday life.
As part of our class IDL theme, we have been learning about the events surrounding the sinking of the Titanic, why the unsinkable ship sank and those passengers and crew members who were affected on that fateful night.
During one of our class discussions, we suggested to Mrs Chalmers and Mr Dunn that it would be an amazing opportunity to visit the Titanic Museum in Belfast to see first hand artefacts from this historical event. Never did we think that our wish would come true!
As you can see from the photograph below, we are all very excited to be travelling to Belfast, even though it is still very early in the morning!
On arrival at Cairnryan we were amazed at the sheer size of the ferry and couldn’t believe that we had our very own cinema and selection of interactive games….. we felt as though we were on board the Titanic travelling in  First Class.
To stay focused and calm during the journey we asked Mr McCann to lead a mindfulness meditation.
Inside the museum we were able to follow the timeline of events from construction of the Titanic, view the interactive grand staircase, take a journey through time with the workers at Harland and Wolff, learn about the different cabins for passengers in different classes and watch from above as the Titanic is slowly excavated from the depths of the deep ocean floor.
WOW! As you can see from the photographs above, the museum provided us with so many great learning opportunities. We were all sad to be travelling back home! We did however have a scrumptious meal on board the ferry travelling back home.
We would finally like to thank Mrs Stewart for all her hard work behind the scenes organising our outing and to Mrs McFarlane and Mr McCann for providing us with so many memorable memories.
It was the best school trip by far!
Primary 6 are enjoying their Big Maths sessions each morning in class to develop their place value knowledge  and mental agility skills to improve their multiplication tables. One of our maths groups entered a photo competition organised by Glasgow University during Maths Week Scotland and we are pleased to share with you that our pupils were commended with a certificate for their maths in our environment photograph.
Mrs Chalmers set a task for us to design a product to advertise. You could choose a product that already exists, a new version of a current product, or invent something totally new! Here are some creative product designs. Some ideas include perfume, bath bombs, games, food, and many more! Next we were set the task of creating a persuasive poster for story writing and present our ideas to the class using lots of persuasive language. Well done everyone!

This week we have had some more pen licence awards given out. All the people that get the pen licence have very neat handwriting and are very happy that they got it. Our aim is to have everyone in the class to use pen but they can lose it if their work gets messy. As well as the people in the picture there are many others in the class who have the pen licence.Many more are hoping to get the pen licence because everyone wants to use pen. We hope that the neatness continues as more people continue to earn the licence. Well Done to the people who received their pen licence!
A few weeks ago Mrs Chalmers set us a challenge to build an Eco school with lots of Eco features. We have all been very creative with our designs and none of them look the same! As you can see, they were all different shapes and sizes but all still lovely. Most of them included solar panels, wind turbines and many more Eco features.
We have based our ideas on the new building for Gartcosh Primary and have added lots of features that will make it Eco friendly. Some have gone as far as to add real grass/astroturf. Many of our models are made of objects that would otherwise get thrown out. We hope you like our Eco models!

On Monday we were having fun with our leading the learning activities. One of these activities was scanning a reflection QR code. The QR code is a piece of paper that you scan on the iPad to reflect your learning. It then generates a question link to our learning for us to discuss and reflect upon. These questions include:
….and many more. We also had lots of other tasks to choose from such as create a new character for our novel, write a newspaper report, and design a new home for the main characters. We enjoy working with the teacher to create new tasks linked to our novel studies, Natasha’s Will, The Borrower’s and The Invisible Dog.
On Tuesday it was an exciting day because Walter came to our class for a visit. We were playing tennis and as a treat Mrs Chalmers brought Walter in for a visit! Walter was so cute everyone was crowding round him. Most of us got to hug Walter and hold his lead. Then we brought him into our class for a while and Miss McCool & her P7s got to meet Walter too. When it was time for Walter to leave everyone was sad. We had a great time with Walter and we hope he enjoyed his visit too.

During our Health & Wellbeing topic, Ross, our Active School’s Coach came in to teach us First Aid and CPR. We started off with CPR and Ross taught us an acronym: DR ABC. D stands for danger, R stands for response, A stands for airways, B stands for breathing and C stands for CPR (circulation). He also taught us how to look after burns, bleeds and how to tie a sling. Ross also said that there are three main songs to do CPR in tune with: 500 Miles, Nelly the Elephant & Stayin Alive. We did CPR on dummies and learned that we first complete 30 presses, listen to them breathing to see if they are breathing again; if not, do 30 more. We learned many important facts about First Aid and CPR and enjoyed practising it. We now feel a lot more confident with delivering First Aid.
