The children continue to develop their mathematical skills through games, songs, stories as well as taking part in outdoor play and walks in the local community. Through environmental walks children have been looking at environmental print identifying letters within their name. Some children recently visited Motherwell Heritage Centre where they learned more about where they live in Scotland while receiving a tour of the Centre.
Children have also been taking part in Kodaly music sessions within the nursery lead by Heather the Kodaly teacher.
Kodaly is a fun way of teaching music to children in supporting them build oral literacy skills through singing songs and playing musical instruments while developing awareness of beat, tone, pitch within music .
“Research has shown that children who learn
to play music and sing are more self-confident,
have higher self-esteem they also
learn how to get along and achieve a common
goal.”
