{"id":7846,"date":"2018-02-23T10:19:23","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T10:19:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/cumbernauldprimary\/?p=7846"},"modified":"2018-02-23T10:20:19","modified_gmt":"2018-02-23T10:20:19","slug":"the-4-4-2-reading-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/cumbernauldprimary\/2018\/02\/23\/the-4-4-2-reading-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"The 4-4-2 Reading Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Kick off your reading with this amazing challenge!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Scottish Book Trust and the Scottish Professional Football League Trust have joined up with 14 SPFL clubs and over 200 local libraries, to encourage primary school-age children to read in exchange for match tickets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Borrow books from any <\/span><span class=\"s2\">participating library<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> and receive free and discounted tickets for a child and an adult to SPFL football matches from <\/span><span class=\"s2\">participating clubs<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> across Scotland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Read four books for two tickets, it couldn\u2019t be simpler!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>How do I take part?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If your local library is taking part, children aged 5-12 can visit and pick up a Challenge card to register. If you are not already a library member, you can join for free.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">Choose and borrow 4 books from the library.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">Get a stamp on your Challenge card for each book you have read.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">Once the card is full, exchange it for a FREE child\u2019s ticket and a discounted adult\u2019s ticket at the ticket office of one of the SPFL clubs taking part.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You can collect stamps on your card until <b>31 May 2018<\/b>. You can exchange your completed Challenge card for discounted tickets for eligible matches played before 31 October 2018. Kinross Libraries<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li4\"><span class=\"s4\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottishpoetrylibrary.org.uk\/\"><span class=\"s5\">Scottish Poetry Library<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li4\"><span class=\"s4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/my.stirling.gov.uk\/services\/community-life-and-leisure\/libraries-and-archives\"><span class=\"s5\">Stirling Libraries<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li4\"><span class=\"s4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westlothian.gov.uk\/libraries\"><span class=\"s5\">West Lothian Libraries<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>I want to choose some books \u2013 where do I start?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Libraries are a great place to explore and to find books you will enjoy.\u00a0 Your local librarian will be happy to suggest different authors and types of books: picture books, novels, graphic novels, non-fiction \u2013 with so many to choose from you\u2019ll never be bored!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Scottish Book Trust\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottishbooktrust.com\/reading\/book-lists\/kids\"><span class=\"s2\">book lists<\/span><\/a> are a good place to find your next read.\u00a0 They are arranged by age with lots of different themes so you\u2019re sure to find something that grabs your attention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You can also find over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingchallenge.scot\/begin-your-journey\"><span class=\"s2\">300 book suggestions<\/span><\/a> drawn up for the First Minister\u2019s Reading Challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingchallenge.scot\/blog\/how-parents-and-carers-can-help-make-reading-fun\"><span class=\"s2\">helpful advice for parents and carers<\/span><\/a> to help make reading fun for children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you are a parent\/carer and would like to hear from Scottish Book Trust with reading suggestions and tips for encouraging your child to read,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottishbooktrust.com\/e-updates\"><span class=\"s2\"> please sign up here<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Full terms and conditions<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">The reading Challenge is open to any young person aged 5-12 through participating libraries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">The reading Challenge will run from 6th February 2018 until the 31st May 2018.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">All tickets must be redeemed for SPFL games which fall before the 31st October 2018.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">For every completed Challenge card, the holder is entitled to one free child match ticket and one discounted adult ticket at participating SPFL Clubs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">Clubs participating in the 4-4-2 Reading Challenge are: Annan Athletic FC, Arbroath FC, Dundee FC, Dundee United FC, Forfar Athletic FC, Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC, Kilmarnock FC, Livingston FC, Motherwell FC, Peterhead FC, Raith Rovers FC, Ross County FC, St Johnstone FC, Stirling Albion FC.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">Completed Challenge cards must contain four stamps received from participating libraries.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">To claim tickets, Challenge cards must be presented to the relevant SPFL Club ticket office along with a valid library card (library cards are available for free at your local library).<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">Only one free child ticket and discounted adult ticket can be redeemed against one match. A minimum discount of 20% will be applied to the adult ticket.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">The free child ticket must only be used by the young person participating in the reading Challenge. All tickets are subject to availability as dictated to by the corresponding SPFL Club.
