Remember that\u00a0you\u00a0are\u00a0not expected to be a teacher or create a school environment\u00a0at home\u00a0but instead to enjoy learning together with\u00a0your\u00a0child.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Routine and structure to the day<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Some structure and routine can be beneficial\u00a0for\u00a0children. \u00a0It can\u00a0help\u00a0them understand\u00a0what is coming\u00a0up\u00a0next, removing uncertainty \u00a0reducing anxiety.\u00a0It can\u00a0also help to separate weekdays from weekends;\u00a0mornings\u00a0and\u00a0afternoons from evenings etc.\u00a0If your child is reluctant or refuses to engage with activities, this can be\u00a0a sign of anxiety or worry.\u00a0Give your child choices if they are able to make the choice. Help your child to share what may be worrying them by giving\u00a0examples of words to describe what they may be feeling\u00a0or wondering out loud of what you think maybe bothering them.\u00a0Remember to have plenty of breaks for playing and relaxing together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning together<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Freedom to choose\u00a0their own activities\u00a0and having adults join in their play\u00a0is often a great motivator for children.\u00a0 Encourage\u00a0them\u00a0to teach you how to play their\u00a0favourite\u00a0games, \u00a0toys\u00a0or\u00a0computer\u00a0game,\u00a0watch their\u00a0favourite\u00a0film\/TV\u00a0programme\u00a0 together (e.g. with subtitles)\u00a0or read\u00a0their\u00a0favourite\u00a0book.\u00a0Think about having\u00a0conversations about different scenes, characters and themes.\u00a0\u00a0Following your child&#8217;s interest and making the learning fun can help\u00a0them\u00a0feel comfortable\u00a0and\u00a0give them a sense of security.\u00a0Offering praise for effort and hard work can build\u00a0their motivation to enjoy more learning activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Play based learning<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Learning through play is\u00a0a\u00a0major way in which\u00a0children\u00a0develop essential knowledge and skills;\u00a0\u00a0social, problem solving, language, motor skills etc.\u00a0Also, play can\u00a0allow children to\u00a0practise\u00a0skills they have already learned\u00a0in a fun way.\u00a0\u00a0You may wish to\u00a0organise\u00a0a &#8220;play date&#8221; for your younger children through a video call e.g. your child and another child may play &#8220;hide and seek&#8221; in their own homes with the help of parents in the\u00a0&#8216;seek&#8217;.\u00a0Joining in with\u00a0their\u00a0role play eg dressing up, construction,\u00a0drawing, puzzles,\u00a0board games, arts and crafts, etc.\u00a0are just some ways to\u00a0support your child&#8217;s learning.
