We visited BBC Studios and watched a recording of a new programme called Top Class. it was the final. Two teams were competing to be the nation’s Top class. There were lots of different quiz rounds: Spelling, Quick fire round and others. There was an opening question and the team that got that right gained control of the round. Teachers from the schools also took part.  One of the competitors became ill and a substitute took over.When we were in the audience, the cameras were turned onto us, so we’ll be on TV. We saw Dick and Dom who were recording this year’s Christmas special in May! We  also saw other famous people in a VIP  – Ricky from Art Ninja,Susan Calman, a comedian, Leona Vaughn from Wolf Blood, Nina from Nina and the Neurons and a Kevin Bridges cardboard cut out.

It was a good day out. It would be good to be there when a drama or a news programme was being recorded.

Coronation Chicken Pasta Salad

Yesterday in health our class made coronation chicken pasta salad. We worked in groups of threes or fours. Coronation chicken has most of the food groups and is very healthy. Here  is my evidence to prove it.

pasta= carbs

chicken= protein

sauce= fats and sugar

cucumber and lettuce = fruit and veg

It was very fun to do and we all enjoyed it.Some people learned new skills like the claw and the bridge, they are cutting skills. We got to eat it and it tasted very good. Here are some pictures of people in the class making  them.

Anderson Shelters

Last week we made Anderson Shelters for our topic World War 2. We were split into groups of 3 or 4 and we got given a design brief telling us the rules for making them. Some of the main rules are to;

  1. Work as a team.
  2. Your shelter must follow must have the basic design of an Anderson Shelter.
  3. It must withstand a blast from an electric fan.
  4. Your shelter cannot be more than 40 cm long , 25 cm wide and 20 cm high.
  5. Your shelter must be able to open ( you may wish to add things inside. )

Some of the materials we used were; cardboard, paint, paper ,sticky tape, glue, tissue paper, string and lots of other things. To make them we made a sturdy base for the shelter to sit on. Them we used cardboard to make the shape. After that groups could decide whether they wanted to paint, stick on tissue paper or just leave it plain. Some groups made gardens and decorated the inside of the shelters. Miss Airlie said that the best Anderson shelter would win a prize.Miss Airlie and Miss O’Neill will decide who is the winner. Here are some of the shelters we have created.

This Weeks Learning 21/2/16

This week in heath we have been learning about different diets. We played a game where we had different food cards and we had to decide what diet type could eat them . e.g a salad this would be ok for vegans and vegetarians to eat. We had great fun playing the game.

In topic we have been learning about WW2 we made instructions on how to put your gas mask on .We wrote an evacuation report.

Pancake Day

On Thursday, we made pancakes, as you can see in the pictures above. First of all ,we washed our hands to make sure they were clean. Then we split into groups or four or five. First we made the batter. We put in the flour and sugar then we put in one egg and some milk. We mixed it together with a whisk, so there would be no lumps. Then we put the batter on the hob and and made it look like a pancake shape. We waited until there were bubbles on the surface and then we flipped them over.   We waited until they were cooked and browned  on each  side and then we put them to cool on a wire rack. We then  went to do some work on Ash Wednesday, Mardis Gras and Lent. After everyone had a go making pancakes ,we ate them. They tasted really nice and we put some toppings on them such as, Syrup and Jam. We all really enjoyed making pancakes and had lots of fun. Along the way, we learned lots of facts about the build-up to Easter.

January has been a very busy month for primary 7. We have had a w teacher workinig with us called Miss Airlie. Here are some of the things we have been working on.

Literacy

We are learning about Robert Burns and Scots poetry. We wrote a biography about his life in Taught Writing. We also wrote our own Scottish poem about animals or our pets.

Numeracy

We have been exploring measure so far this term.  We have been converting g to kg and ml to l.  This has involved decimals.  In big maths we have  been revising smile multiplication and jigsaw numbers.

Topic

This month we have been involved in developing a script for Scottish Assembly on the 5th of February.  We all have our own parts and we have had to learn songs and poems. For health, we were looking at what influences our food choices as well as the foods we should be eating so our diet is balanced.
