Children in Need

Today it is Children in Need. Also known as Pudsey Day!

We went to the hall to do some fun activities such as face painting,  nail painting and cake decorating.

I liked the hall because it was filled with guessing games – Erin

I liked the cakes – Lewis

I liked getting my face painted – Kevin

I liked getting my nails painted – Michael

I liked both getting my nails and face painted – Erika

I liked colouring in the Pudsey pictures – Lily

In class we were making dancing Pudseys! They look fantastic on our wall.

We done a Children in Need Quiz and 3 groups won!

We made our very own Pudsey Similes! Some super ones were:

Pudsey is as yellow as a bee!

Pudsey is as cute as a bunny!

Pudsey is as yellow as a banana!

Pudsey is as spotty as a ladybug!

Pudsey is as yellow as my water bottle!

Pudsey is as yellow as the sun!

Pudsey is as yellow as a Simpson!

P4/5 have had a great day in class and in the hall!

Happy Halloween!

To celebrate Halloween we created Colourful Haunted Houses. We used white crayons to do the outlines and bright coloured pastels to colour in the detail. The pastels looked really good against the black paper and stood out.

We also used the i-pads to do some research about Halloween. We found out about its origins and how it is celebrated around the world. We used the information we found to write ‘spooktacular’ reports about Halloween during our Taught Writing.

We all enjoyed taking part in a Halloween Quiz! We worked in teams to answer the interactive Kahoot Quiz. We loved seeing our results displayed on the SMART board. We’re a little bit competitive in this class!

Awesome Autumn Work

On Thursday Priamary 4/5 were focusing on the season of Autumn before and after our Harvest Service. In the morning they wrote Autumn Poems in groups. The poems were special because each group had to use their understanding of nouns, adjectives and verbs to help them. We did it step by step and everyone was blown away by how amazing the poems turned out. We wanted to display them in the class so everyone got to redraft their groups poem either using the special art pens or on the computers. The redrafted copies were so good that Miss Kinloch put them up on the windows straight away!

In the afternoon each of us got a chance to create a piece of Autumn artwork. We were inspired by the colours of Autumn to create an abstract patterned background for our symmetrical leaf shadows. They were really simple to do but look fantastic! We put them around our Autumn Poems to create an Autumn theme for our class windows.

Our new topic

Primary 4/5 have been busy this afternoon learning about their new topic the 1960’s!

We worked at home this week to find an interesting fact for this decade so we want to thank our adults at home who helped us!

Today our learning intention was to use ICT to research facts for our 1960’s class timeline. Two groups used QR codes and one group had to type the web address on the laptops. We worked in pairs to find six facts for a year in the 60’s. We found lots of exciting and surprising facts and wrote them on speech bubbles. Miss Kinloch was extremely impressed with our research skills! Check out pictures of our tremendous timeline…

Maths Week part 1

This week is all about Maths and P4/5 have already been so busy! Our focus has been Time and we started by creating posters to share our prior knowledge. We know a lot about time and our posters are full of great facts and detailed pictures.

On Tuesday we worked as a class to create our very own calendar. We worked in pairs to make a page for each month. It was important to find out how many days were in the month and we put in the events from the month which are important to us. We made sure the picture matched the season or events that happen in the month.

We have used maths week to get on Sum Dog and take part in the Scottish competition. We are all trying to get on everyday in class for at least 15 minutes but we’re trying to go on at home too!  We are loving maths week so far!!
