 NATIONAL 4 FASHION AND TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY 

 Why study National 4 Fashion and Textile Technology? 

 Studying Fashion and Textile Technology lets pupils develop an understanding of textile properties, characteristics and technologies, item development, fashion/textile trends and factors that affect fashion choice. The course particularly emphasises the development of practical skills and textile construction techniques to make detailed fashion/textile items, to an appropriate standard of quality. 

 What other school subjects might help me to be successful? 

  • Entry is at the discretion of the school but would normally expect a pupil to have completed the BGE course in fashion and textile technology. 

What pupils will study?  

 On this course pupils will develop practical skills and textile construction techniques to make detailed fashion/textile items, to an appropriate standard of quality. They will also develop an understanding of textile properties, characteristics and technologies, item development, fashion/textile trends and factors that affect fashion/textile choice. communication skills. 

It may also contribute towards the development of numeracy skills through the measurement of textiles and the timing of production. 

 How is the course structured? 

The course centres around four key themes.

Fashion and Textile Choices

Making a Fashion or Textile Item 

  • Understand factors affecting the fashion/ textile choices. 

 

  • Investigate the fashion/textile choices. 

 

  • Make and evaluate simple or detailed fashion/textile items. 

 

  • Plan and make simple or detailed fashion/textile items, to an appropriate standard. 

 

  • Learn to select, set up, adjust and use equipment and tools safely and correctly. 

 

  • Understand the characteristics and properties of a range of textiles and their uses. 

 

  • Demonstrate a range of textile construction techniques, including the use of patterns. 

 

 

 

  • Pupils will successfully complete a fashion-based assignment.  

 

  • The task will be sufficiently open and flexible to allow for personalisation and choice.
