Email from UNICEF

Over the past couple of months S1 pupils have been working in Science and in PSHE to learn about the importance of clean air for children around the world and in particular for them in their local area. The lessons culminated in writing and sending postcards to UNICEF outlining why they think clean air is important for them. The school recently received this email from UNICEF UK:

“Thank you for your continued support of OutRight, and please pass our special thanks to your pupils for standing up in support of clean air. We’ve received over 4000 postcards from students across the country, calling on the Secretary of State to tackle air pollution, and we are looking forward to passing these along to him.

From 11 March to 14 March, Unicef UK are hosting an OutRight exhibition in the Houses of Parliament to promote the voices of children and young people on air pollution.
The exhibition will showcase some of the clean air postcards we have received and provide visitors with a better understanding of how children are particularly vulnerable to the negative health effects of breathing toxic air.

We believe it is important for Parliamentarians to attend the exhibition to see first-hand how toxic air is affecting children in the UK, and we hope it will inspire them to take urgent action.”

We have invited our local MP Hugh Gaffney to attend.
