Clydeview

Starting Nursery

On entry to Clydeview nursery parents are invited to complete a ‘Getting to Know You’ booklet about their child which provides us with a range of vital information for our initial assessment.  The child will then be informally assessed over a period of six weeks through observation of different activities within the Nursery.  Based on these findings and on the information given by parents an additional support programme is drawn up for each child.  Parents are then invited to discuss the outline of the final plan with staff at the ASP consultation meeting in September/October and to add to or alter if necessary.  This meeting involves parents, class teacher, speech and language therapist and a member of school management team.

This programme is used as a basis for teaching the child within the nursery.  Short term targets are then taken from these programmes and focused on over a school term.  Progress is monitored and teaching strategies modified if necessary.  Parents are kept informed of pupil’s progress both through formal bi-annual written reports and informal home/school links.  Opportunities are given on a regular basis for parents to meet with our speech and language therapists and parents are welcome to contact the school at any time regarding any concerns they have.

If you feel your child may benefit from a specialist placement such as Clydeview please feel free to contact the school and you are welcome to visit us for a tour of our service.
