{"id":1024,"date":"2024-05-13T13:54:59","date_gmt":"2024-05-13T12:54:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/clydevalley\/?p=1024"},"modified":"2024-05-13T13:55:56","modified_gmt":"2024-05-13T12:55:56","slug":"inspectors-praise-clyde-valley-high-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/clydevalley\/2024\/05\/13\/inspectors-praise-clyde-valley-high-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Inspectors Praise Clyde Valley High School"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ace-leading-paragraph\">\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk\/news\/inspectors-praise-wishaw-secondary-school-making-significant-progress\">Inspectors praise Wishaw secondary school for making significant progress | North Lanarkshire Council<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pupils, parents\u00a0and\u00a0staff at Clyde Valley High School have welcomed the encouraging feedback provided by school inspectors following a recent visit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ace-content-paragraphs\">\n<div class=\"ace-paragraph-basic-paragraph\">\n<div class=\"ace-field-body\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">A follow-up letter to parents and carers has highlighted positive changes in leadership and culture at the school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">The report praised headteacher Sandra Gilfillan for bringing in\u00a0\u201ca clear vision that everyone supports\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In\u00a0response\u00a0Ms Gilfillan said:\u00a0\u201cWe are delighted that Education Scotland has recognised the\u00a0good\u00a0progress the school has made, highlighting our culture of positivity and enthusiasm,\u00a0and noting the sense of belonging and pride our young people feel\u00a0in the school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur improvements to the learning environment\u00a0and high levels of commitment displayed by our staff have been\u00a0key\u00a0in\u00a0bringing about improved\u00a0outcomes for young people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn so many\u00a0ways\u00a0our young people have been the driving force behind these changes\u00a0and\u00a0we are very proud of their passion for learning and\u00a0the leadership skills\u00a0that they display.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to developing further opportunities for our young people to grow and to reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In March 2020, in their initial inspection, HM Inspectors highlighted\u00a0key\u00a0areas for improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Now\u00a0however\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0found significant improvements at the school\u00a0which\u00a0has led to\u00a0\u201cthe climate of trust and pride\u00a0which is\u00a0evident from staff and young people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In consultation with pupils, the headteacher and staff worked together to simplify plans to improve the school, focusing on two key areas: increased pupil attendance and developing classroom approaches to improve attainment.<\/p>\n<p>The report also praised pupils at the school for their positive attitudes, politeness\u00a0and\u00a0good\u00a0behaviour:\u00a0\u201cYoung people in the senior stages are taking on more leadership roles, for example, the pupil parliament, the sustainability group, learning ambassadors\u00a0and\u00a0the sports council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe headteacher now plans to extend pupil leadership opportunities to include even more young people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Michael McBride, Convener of Education, Children and Families, welcomed the report, saying:\u00a0&#8220;It\u2019s\u00a0clear that Clyde Valley is on an upward and positive direction, which underscores the\u00a0school&#8217;s\u00a0commitment to transparency and continuous improvement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u00a0would like to congratulate the entire school community on their achievements and look forward to following their progress with interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms\u00a0Gilfillan added:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019d\u00a0like to thank everyone at the school\u00a0including\u00a0pupils, parents\/carers\u00a0and\u00a0staff\u00a0for\u00a0their support and dedication\u00a0for\u00a0everything we have achieved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter concluded:\u00a0\u201cWe\u00a0recognise\u00a0that the school needs some more time to implement its priorities for improvement fully.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have asked North Lanarkshire Council to provide us with a report on the\u00a0school\u2019s\u00a0attainment within 18 months from the publication of this letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis report will inform any decision made by Education Scotland regarding further engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Inspectors praise Wishaw secondary school for making significant progress | North Lanarkshire Council Pupils, parents\u00a0and\u00a0staff at Clyde Valley High School have welcomed the encouraging feedback provided by school inspectors following a recent visit.
