Members of the Mathematics Department visit Cleland weekly, helping our pupils to build relationships with high school staff and become familiar with some of the approaches they will experience in secondary school.

Senior pupils from Coltness High also visit Cleland to lead coaching sessions in rugby, basketball and badminton with our two oldest classes. Each sport is delivered in a six-week block and concludes with a tournament at Coltness High School alongside pupils from our fellow feeder primary schools, Calderbridge Primary and Cambusnethan Primary.

Our pupils are also invited to take part in a range of events at Coltness High, including a Maths Challenge and a Modern Languages event. These experiences give children the opportunity to spend time in the school building, meet staff and pupils, and begin to feel part of the wider Coltness community before they start S1.

The Head Teachers of the three feeder primary schools meet regularly with the Depute Head Teacher at Coltness High School to plan transition activities and identify further opportunities for high school staff and pupils to work with our children.

We recognise that some children may need additional support as they prepare for secondary school. Coltness High provides an enhanced transition programme for pupils who may feel particularly anxious or require additional reassurance. This includes extra visits to the high school for a variety of activities, allowing children to become more familiar with the building, meet key support staff and spend time with other pupils who may have similar concerns in a smaller, supportive setting.

Our aim is for every child to move on to secondary school feeling confident, supported and excited about the next stage of their learning journey

Transition to Coltness High School At Cleland Primary School, we work very closely with Coltness High School to ensure that the move from primary to secondary school is as positive and stress-free as possible for our pupils.
