If they are unable to complete it please sign it and send it back into the teacher. This will let him\/her know that there was a problem.<\/p>\n<p>A few years ago we asked parents, teachers and pupils if we should give homework in addition to reading. It was overwhelmingly agreed that we should. The philosophy behind giving homework is to assist your child in the art of study, which will be necessary in later life. In Cleland Primary we aim to help:<\/p>\n<p>Pupils<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To develop a sense of responsibility for their own learning<\/li>\n<li>To develop opportunities for additional learning time<\/li>\n<li>To improve pupil self-confidence and motivation<\/li>\n<li>To develop the formation of study skills<\/li>\n<li>To manage their time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Parents<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To provide opportunities to share in their child\u2019s learning<\/li>\n<li>To show an interest in their child\u2019s education<\/li>\n<li>To be involved with opportunities to share and encourage their child\u2019s progress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>\u00a0<\/u><strong><u>Teaching and Learning Issues<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Homework should include a variety of tasks that underpin the values and principles of A Curriculum for Excellence and extend work studied in class.\u00a0 A Curriculum for Excellence proposes that learning experiences encourage children to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.\u00a0 With this intention in mind, Cleland Primary believes home, the community, the environment and the media all provide information and examples, which can be used to enrich work introduced in school.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A variety of homework activities should be given:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reading<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Reinforcement of class work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Research topics\/investigations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Children should be able to complete homework tasks on their own.
