WHAT IS THE PARENT COUNCIL?<\/b><\/p>\n

In 2007\/8 the Scottish Executive decided that the old system of School Boards and Parent Teacher Associations needed to be changed, in order to help parents become more involved in their children\u2019s education and improve relationships with their local school. They recommended that a new group called the Parent Council be set up in each school.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>The Parent Council is made up of members of the Parent Forum and works\u00a0<\/span>closely with the Head Teacher to support the school in its work with pupils.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Parent Forum – As a parent of a child at this school you are automatically a member of the Parent Forum. The Parent Forum is composed of all the parents and carers of children at the school.<\/p>\n

WHAT DOES THE PARENT COUNCIL DO?<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>We aim to create a welcoming and inclusive school for all.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Represent all the parents \/ carers of Chryston Primary (the Parent Forum).<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Help the school to understand how to involve parents most effectively in their children\u2019s learning and in the life of the school.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Supports school activities through fundraising.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Works in partnership with the school, the pupils and parents to deliver a supportive learning environment.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Support the school and Headteacher in developing strong home\/school partnerships.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Support the school in its development and improvement, and in understanding and making links with the wider community.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Capture the unique and varied skills, interests, knowledge, and experience that parents can offer.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Explore how everyone can best support the education and welfare of pupils.<\/p>\n

The Parent Council is also active in fundraising with all the money it raises used to benefit our young people in the school. Some recent examples are supporting P1 transition gifts, swimming lessons & P7 Leavers events. We have also invested in new sporting equipment.<\/p>\n

If you have any ideas, expertise or sponsorship opportunities that might help the school provide additional resources to benefit our young people then please get in touch.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>WANT TO GET INVOLVED?<\/b><\/p>\n

There are lots of ways to get involved with us. Our AGM will be held in September each year which will provide opportunities for new members to join us. However, you do not need to be a member of the Parent Council to get involved. We are always looking for volunteers to help us with our events.<\/p>\n

All parents and carers are welcome to attend our meetings!\u00a0 Our next meeting will be Wednesday 5th March 6.30pm in Chryston Community Hub.<\/b><\/p>\n
