Chryston High School Sports Ambassador for Swimming
“On the 2nd of November I attended the NL Swimming Championships with Mrs Walker and our swimmers. This was a real motivation for me, I felt like I was fighting for every gold as I watched each and every swimmer. It made me feel like I wanted to stick my shorts on and dive in, but unfortunately not. Our Chryston swimmers were high achievers at the competition.
Isla McDonald had a fantastic swim coming inches close to her PB.
Lauren Addyman won a medal in all her events getting gold in the 200m Fly, 100m fly, 400m IM and silver in her 200m IM.
Heather Lees had 6 great swims getting gold in her 100m Free, 200m IM, 100m and 200m Breast, 100m Back, 100m Fly.
Kerr Martin also achieved all golds in 100m and 200m Breast, 100m and 200m back, 200m IM.
Greg Fairbairn also swam 5 exceptional races bringing home with him a silver in his 200m Back and 200m Free, 100m and 200m Breast, 200m IM
Overall it was a huge success for the school earning 17 golds and 2 silvers!”
On a cool autumn morning on Friday the 30th of September, 160 first years pupils, 30 staff and helpers descended on Drumpelier Country Park to participate in our PE, Home Economics and Geography inter-disciplinary event; Picnic in the Park.
This event was the culmination of weeks of learning across the different departments in the school. In PE, the pupils spent time developing their fitness and learning the skills required to successfully complete the Orienteering competition course. In Home Economics, pupils learned about sports nutrition, preparing Flapjacks to eat before the event to provide energy, and soup and a roll to refuel after the event. Our young people brushed up on their map reading skills in Geography so that they could successfully negotiate the entire grounds of the park.
Despite a couple of heavy showers, a good morning of outdoor learning was enjoyed by everyone with all S1 pupils gaining either their Gold, Silver or Bronze National Navigation Award.
Special congratulations to all of our medal winning pairs for completing their respective courses in the fastest time!
On Monday the 29th of August Chryston High held it’s annual Sports Award Ceremony to celebrate the sporting success of our many talented pupils.
