Drumpellier Loch

We visited Drumpellier Park and had an extremely informative talk from Jackie the Park Ranger. We walked around the park and he told us lots of interesting information, which you can see on one of our previous posts. We were very lucky to see some deer who crossed our path, if you look carefully at the pictures you may be able to spot them. After lunch, because we were so well behaved we were allowed some free time in the play park. As you can see from the photos we had a fantastic time. The views from Rawyards Forestry Commission were amazing too! A great day was had by all.

Homework 4th June

We all visited Drumpellier Park last Tuesday and learned lots of information from the Park Ranger, Jackie. Can you record 3 pieces of interesting information you learned.

I have been trying to upload the photos but, for some reason they are not uploading from home. Please keep checking and I shall get them on as soon as possible.

Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

What a fabulous afternoon we all had at the tea party. We had a variety of teas to choose from, some hot chocolate and hot orange squash. The hot chocolate was by far the most popular! We also had some sandwiches and cakes and of course jam tarts! I really was amazed at the effort you all put into your mad hats. Here are the hats for everyone to see, although I’m sure there are a couple of children missing.  Let me know what you thought of the afternoon.

Also a quick reminder! Most of you forgot about our donation for Dog’s Trust. Try to have this in for Friday please so we can ask Mrs Baillie to organise a cheque and get it posted to help the dogs in need.

Thank you

Cocoons

It was finally time to move the caterpillar cocoons to the net. It was an extremely delicate task as we did not want to harm the caterpillars. We had to remove all the silk from the lid as this could cause harm to the butterflies once they emerge from their cocoon. Keep posted for our updates on the butterflies.

Honeywell Habitats Development

Since our first visit to the garden, when we recorded a list of improvements, we really have made a difference. We tried to repair the bottle greenhouse (again), we began removing litter and plastic bottles from inside the greenhouse. We also built raised beds and will be planting flowers to attract a variety of mini beasts to our garden, our plan is to have a mini beast garden in front of the mansion. We also have a selection of traditional heathers to plant too.  The weeding of the bog is a huge job but Mr Morton and his team are doing a marvellous job of it. More updates will be posted after our next visit on Thursday (weather permitting)! It really is exhausting!

Honeywell Habitats

It’s good news for Primary 5. Mr Murray and I visited the garden centre and bought some plants for our gardens which shall be delivered on Monday so that means we will be extremely busy on Tuesday afternoon ( only if the weather stays dry)! We have planting, building, de-weeding, litter picking and dismantling some run down items. Remember to bring your wellies and old clothes as we may get dirty!

Mini Beasts

Our new visitors have arrived!image image image We received the caterpillars last week and they’ve trebled in size already! The ladybirds came yesterday, they are minuscule. We hope to release them in the garden as soon as they’re ready!
