P4/3 made tuna wraps today in school as part of Food & Nutrition/Cooking Week. They absolutely loved it and they are learning the new skills of cutting correctly with a knife – no fingers are missing!! The children were very health and safety conscious. They are very proud of their work in the kitchen!

IDL autumn homework tasks
The children enjoyed a reporting back session today on their autumn IDL homework tasks. Some had made crowns of autumn leaves, we had an autumn and hedgehog acrostic poem, a bird feeder and woodland walk scent jars whereby the children had gathered autumn leaves, twigs etc and mashed them up in a jar with some water to create the “smell of autumn “. Others drew pictures showing the differences in the seasons of summer and autumn and some even gathered leaves and used them to make pictures of autumn animals. I am very impressed with everyone’s efforts. A massive thank you to all parents who shared in this learning too. I hope everyone found it worthwhile.
Our Apprentice Challenges are complete!
P4/3 have completed the 3D Apprentice Challenges and they were a great success. Each team pitched their product to me and I questioned (grilled) the teams to find out about pricing, choice of packaging, design and ingredients of the products contained within each box. The children rose to the challenge exceptionally well. I have still to make my final decision. The children transferred their learning and improved their communication skills through this task.
P4/3 – tell me if you enjoyed this task and why.
“The Apprentice” 3D shape challenge!
P4/3 have undertaken a shape challenge in the style of the TV programme, “The Apprentice”. They are working in pairs to design new packaging for a food or drink. They have lots to think about before they eventually complete the design and make up the net of the shape into a 3D style. They will have to present their finished products to me at the end (move over, Lord Sugar – Lady Bryce is assessing THIS one!!) The children are loving the challenge and are competing fiercely against each other. Here are some pictures as they start out on the journey…………..
Bonfire Night Safety
We have been doing lots of work on Bonfire Night. We have learned about Guy Fawkes and his gunpowder plot, can recognise all the reasons for staying safe and can follow a firework safety code, encouraging adults and others to do the same. I hope you have a lovely time if you are going to an organised fireworks display. Keep warm, stay well back and, most importantly………..STAY SAFE!!! P4/3 – I shall hear all about your weekend when we come back to school on Monday. You could always post a comment here about your activities this weekend.

Bonfire Night literacy tasks
P3/4 spent the afternoon completing literacy tasks related to Bonfire Night Tasks included story sequencing, Bonfire Night comprehension and writing instructions for making chocolate sparklers. They enjoyed making this treat first and everyone thought they tasted yummy. There was even an opportunity to create an online fireworks spectacular using the Crayola website. The children rotated round the 3 stations. In our plenary session, the everyone deemed it a “roaring” success!
Travel Tracker
Each morning, the children use the Travel Tracker on the Smartboard to record how they get to school each day. Badges are given to encourage the children to walk to school, cycle or use the park and stride areas to promote their health and wellbeing. They love doing this and really enjoy the reward of a lovely badge. Keep up the good work, P4/3!!
Zumba Mania!!
Primary 4/3, along with Primary 3, went to our sponsored Zumbathon this morning and had a fantastic time. Cheeks were very red by the end and everyone improved their fitness level. Thank you for sponsoring us for this event.
Story writing Conference session
The Apples reading group used their reading skills to read each other’s taught writing work. They added their comments to their partner’s jotter, pointing out the good points and drawing their attention to things they might improve on. They then spoke to each other about the writing work completed. From this conversation, the children coloured their target the appropriate colour. The children enjoyed doing this.
