The Primary 3 children from Primary 3/2 had a fantastic time today at their party.

We had a magic morning with Magic Den this morning.

We had a lovely day exploring the Allotment with Mrs Raeburn last week. We learned how to identify different types of fruit and vegetables by looking at their leaves and learned about the conditions which certain fruit require to grow.

We have had a very busy first few weeks in Primary 3/2 and have had lots of fun getting to know one another. Our introductory topic this term has been Superheroes and the class have had a super time participating in lots of Superhero challenges. We have also been working very hard learning about Number Bonds and continuing to develop our Reading and Writing skills.

PE takes place on Monday and Thursday each week and we have had a fabulous time participating in Circuit training and monitoring our fitness progress.

Homework tasks will be the same each week and all homework will be issued on the Monday in order to provide opportunity for children to complete it alongside any extra-curricular activities.

Monday – Spelling words should be written 3 times followed by 3 sentences.

Tuesday – Maths and Spelling Activities. Children may choose one task per week. This is a new school development.

Wednesday – Numeracy Homework.

Thursday – IDL homework.

Our class blog will be updated as often as possible and is a great way to keep you informed about your child’s education.

Mrs Graham and Primary 3/2

We took the opportunity today to do some maths challenges in the sun. We are learning the 2x table and we had a chalkboard challenge in groups. Everyone had their brains switched on and put correct answers on the chalkboard animals in the playground. Alfie said, “That was really good fun working on our numbers outside.”  Chloe said, “It’s different doing our work out in the sunshine.” Everyone had a great time – and, even though we were enjoying the sunshine, we were still working well. Well done, P2b!

We had a great trip to Summerlee yesterday with P2a. The sun was shining and we had our lunch outside. We spent all our money on toys and sweets and we played in the play park. We saw how life was in the Monklands area many years ago. In the afternoon, we went on a wildlife walk with Sandra (who works there). We found bugs, insects, lovely wild flowers and even saw some rabbits down by the canal. There were also loads of tadpoles in the water and we saw them from up above on the bridge. It was a super trip – Miss Bryce’s first visit – she was very impressed.

Hamish is Mr and Mrs Grinling’s cat from our topic, “The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch.” He lives in our class at the moment – in a basket on a zip line from the Grinling’s cottage to the lighthouse.  We came into school on Tuesday to find that Hamish was missing from his basket and he had left a note for us (clever Hamish!)

We made “Lost” posters and put them up around the school. We were very worried this morning when Hamish hadn’t returned. We spoke to Mr Murray (he organises our cooking weeks and we know from the note that Hamish was hungry), Mrs Carson and her staff came out from the kitchen to speak to us. Health and Hygiene rules don’t allow pets in the kitchen so we had to look elsewhere. Stevie the janitor looked on our CCTV camera but didn’t notice Hamish making his break for freedom! So P2b went on a cat hunt! We looked in the staff room – no Hamish.  We looked in our new kitchen upstairs (the only other place with food) ……………. and there he was – in a food box, wearing an apron and eating mackerel fillets!! We were delighted to see him.

We will be writing about Hamish and his adventures in our next story writing lesson. Everyone is glad he has returned! The children have written notes of love and encouragement so that Hamish won’t feel the need to disappear again!

Primary 2b paid a visit to the allotment today to help plant marigolds that we have grown from seed in class. They were planted in the box where the pumpkins will also be going. The marigolds will encourage the bees to come and pollinate the flowers, helping our vegetables to grow. It was a sunny but windy day and everybody had a great time as you can see in the photos. We hope to be back at the allotment before the end of the school session to check on the progress of all our flowers and vegetables.

The children now have the words to our school show song. Parents – hopefully you’ll be able to help with the lyrics. Gail Arbuckle is choreographer for this and the children are looking forward to learning their new dance.

Mrs Raeburn came and planted marigolds with us and we are growing them in our class. Thank you to the children who took them home over the holidays and looked after them well. They are now growing beautifully. More updated photos to follow………
