Rights Respecting School

RRSA Logo.jpgWe have registered for the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award. Our Rights Respecting Committee are co-ordinating different activities to help us work towards achieving our Level 1 Status.

The award is based on learning about United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We believe that learning about children’s rights will help us become responsible citizens and effective contributors. The Scottish Government have produced information to explain the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and how it affects you. What is RRSA?

UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working to protect and promote children’s rights.

“The RRSA recognises achievement in putting the Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos. By taking these steps a school community helps improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their potential. A rights- respecting school not only teaches about child rights but also models rights and respect in all its relationships: between teachers/adults and pupils, between adults, and between pupils.”   UNICEF, 2013
